History of Periodontitis Diagnosis and Edentulism as Predictors of Cardiovascular Disease, Stroke, and Mortality in Postmenopausal Women
Michael J. LaMonte,Robert J. Genco,Kathleen M. Hovey,Robert B. Wallace,Jo L. Freudenheim,Dominique S. Michaud,Xiaodan Mai,Lesley F. Tinker,Christian R. Salazar,Chris Andrews,Wenjun Li,Charles B. Eaton,Lisa W. Martin,Jean Wactawski-Wende +13 more
TL;DR: In community‐dwelling older women, edentulism was associated with increased risks of CVD and total mortality, and presence of periodontitis, which is more prevalent than edentULism, was linked with 17% higher mortality rate.
Journal Article
Obesity as a risk factor for osteoarthritis: mechanical versus metabolic.
TL;DR: The Osteoarthritis Initiative will help us understand these associations and allow us to evaluate new biomarkers for symptomatic incident and progression of established knee OA as well as the relationship of obesity and generalized OA.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estrogen alone and joint symptoms in the Women's Health Initiative randomized trial.
Rowan T. Chlebowski,Dominic J. Cirillo,Charles B. Eaton,Marcia L. Stefanick,Mary Pettinger,Laura D Carbone,Karen C. Johnson,Michael S. Simon,Nancy Fugate Woods,Jean Wactawski-Wende +9 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that estrogen-alone use in postmenopausal women results in a modest but sustained reduction in the frequency of joint pain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rheumatoid Arthritis, Anti–Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide Positivity, and Cardiovascular Disease Risk in the Women's Health Initiative
Rachel H. Mackey,Lewis H. Kuller,Kevin D. Deane,Brian Walitt,Yuefang Chang,V. Michael Holers,William H. Robinson,Russell P. Tracy,Mark A. Hlatky,Charles B. Eaton,Simin Liu,Matthew S. Freiberg,Mehret Birru Talabi,Erik B. Schelbert,Larry W. Moreland +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality over the course of 10 years among the more than 160,000 postmenopausal women in the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) in relation to self-reported rheumatoid arthritis (RA), taking disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) positivity, rhematoid factor (RF) positive, CVD risk factors, joint pain, and inflammation (white blood
Journal ArticleDOI
Dietary Fat Intake and Radiographic Progression of Knee Osteoarthritis: Data From the Osteoarthritis Initiative.
TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the prospective association of dietary fat intake with radiographic progression of knee OA and found significant positive relationships of total fat and saturated fatty acids (SFA) intakes with joint space width loss.
