Journal ArticleDOI
The channel catfish genome sequence provides insights into the evolution of scale formation in teleosts.
Zhanjiang Liu,Shikai Liu,Jun Yao,Lisui Bao,Jiaren Zhang,Yun Li,Chen Jiang,Luyang Sun,Ruijia Wang,Yu Zhang,Tao Zhou,Qifan Zeng,Qiang Fu,Sen Gao,Ning Li,Sergey Koren,Yanliang Jiang,Aleksey V. Zimin,Peng Xu,Adam M. Phillippy,Xin Geng,Lin Song,Fanyue Sun,Chao Li,Xiaozhu Wang,Ailu Chen,Yulin Jin,Zihao Yuan,Yujia Yang,Suxu Tan,Eric Peatman,Jianguo Lu,Zhenkui Qin,Rex A. Dunham,Zhaoxia Li,Tad S. Sonstegard,Jianbin Feng,Roy G. Danzmann,Steven Schroeder,Brian E. Scheffler,Mary V. Duke,Linda L. Ballard,Huseyin Kucuktas,Ludmilla Kaltenboeck,Haixia Liu,Jonathan W. Armbruster,Yangjie Xie,Mona L. Kirby,Yi Tian,Mary Elizabeth Flanagan,Weijie Mu,Geoffrey C. Waldbieser +51 more
TL;DR: A high-quality reference genome sequence of channel catfish is reported, providing evidence that lack of secretory calcium-binding phosphoproteins accounts for the evolutionary loss of scales in catfish and demonstrates the power of comparative subtraction of candidate genes for traits of structural significance.
Journal ArticleDOI
A genome-wide association study in catfish reveals the presence of functional hubs of related genes within QTLs for columnaris disease resistance
Xin Geng,Jin Sha,Shikai Liu,Lisui Bao,Jiaren Zhang,Ruijia Wang,Jun Yao,Chao Li,Jianbin Feng,Fanyue Sun,Luyang Sun,Chen Jiang,Yu Zhang,Ailu Chen,Rex A. Dunham,Degui Zhi,Zhanjiang Liu +16 more
TL;DR: Four QTLs associated with columnaris resistance in catfish are revealed and many candidate genes on the four associated regions are involved in PI3K pathway that is known to be required by many bacteria for efficient entry into the host.
Journal ArticleDOI
A genome-wide association study of heat stress-associated SNPs in catfish.
Yulin Jin,Tao Zhou,Xin Geng,Shikai Liu,Ailu Chen,Jun Yao,Chen Jiang,Suxu Tan,Baofeng Su,Zhanjiang Liu +9 more
TL;DR: A genome-wide association study was carried out using the 250 K catfish SNP array with interspecific backcross progenies, which derived from crossing female channel catfish with male F1 hybrid catfish, to better understand the molecular basis of heat stress.
Journal ArticleDOI
GWAS analysis of QTL for enteric septicemia of catfish and their involved genes suggest evolutionary conservation of a molecular mechanism of disease resistance
Tao Zhou,Shikai Liu,Xin Geng,Yulin Jin,Chen Jiang,Lisui Bao,Jun Yao,Yu Zhang,Jiaren Zhang,Luyang Sun,Xiaozhu Wang,Ning Li,Suxu Tan,Zhanjian "John" Liu +13 more
TL;DR: A genome-wide association study to determine quantitative trait loci (QTL) for resistance against ESC using an interspecific hybrid system found a genomic region on linkage group (LG) 1 was found significantly associated with ESC disease resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-Wide Association Study Reveals Multiple Novel QTL Associated with Low Oxygen Tolerance in Hybrid Catfish
Xiaoxiao Zhong,Xiaozhu Wang,Tao Zhou,Yulin Jin,Suxu Tan,Chen Jiang,Xin Geng,Ning Li,Huitong Shi,Qifan Zeng,Yujia Yang,Zihao Yuan,Lisui Bao,Shikai Liu,Changxu Tian,Eric Peatman,Qi Li,Zhanjiang Liu +17 more
TL;DR: Comparative analysis indicated that most of the QTL at the species level, as analyzed by using the interspecific system, did not overlap with those identified from six strains of channel catfish, confirming the complexity of the genetic architecture of hypoxia tolerance in catfish.
