Genomic analysis identifies association of Fusobacterium with colorectal carcinoma
Aleksandar Kostic,Dirk Gevers,Chandra Sekhar Pedamallu,Chandra Sekhar Pedamallu,Monia Michaud,Fujiko Duke,Fujiko Duke,Ashlee M. Earl,Akinyemi I. Ojesina,Akinyemi I. Ojesina,Joonil Jung,Adam J. Bass,Adam J. Bass,Josep Tabernero,José Baselga,Chen Liu,Ramesh A. Shivdasani,Shuji Ogino,Bruce W. Birren,Curtis Huttenhower,Curtis Huttenhower,Wendy S. Garrett,Wendy S. Garrett,Matthew Meyerson,Matthew Meyerson +24 more
TL;DR: The composition of the microbiota in colorectal carcinoma is characterized using whole genome sequences from nine tumor/normal pairs and Fusobacterium sequences were enriched in carcinomas, confirmed by quantitative PCR and 16S rDNA sequence analysis of 95 carcinoma/normal DNA pairs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interleukin-22 promotes intestinal-stem-cell-mediated epithelial regeneration
Caroline A. Lindemans,Caroline A. Lindemans,Marco Calafiore,Anna Mertelsmann,Margaret O'Connor,Jarrod A Dudakov,Jarrod A Dudakov,Robert R. Jenq,Enrico Velardi,Lauren F. Young,Odette M. Smith,Gillian Lawrence,Juliet Ivanov,Ya-Yuan Fu,Shuichiro Takashima,Guoqiang Hua,Maria Laura Martin,Kevin P. O’Rourke,Yuan-Hung Lo,Michal Mokry,Monica Romera-Hernandez,Tom Cupedo,Lukas E. Dow,Edward E. S. Nieuwenhuis,Noah F. Shroyer,Chen Liu,Richard Kolesnick,Marcel R.M. van den Brink,Alan M. Hanash +28 more
TL;DR: It is shown that innate lymphoid cells (ILCs), potent producers of interleukin-22 (IL-22) after intestinal injury, increase the growth of mouse small intestine organoids in an IL-22-dependent fashion, revealing a fundamental mechanism by which the immune system is able to support the intestinal epithelium, activating ISCs to promote regeneration.
Journal ArticleDOI
An immunomodulatory role for CD4+CD25+ regulatory T lymphocytes in hepatitis C virus infection
Roniel Cabrera,Zhengkun Tu,Yiling Xu,Roberto J. Firpi,Hugo R. Rosen,Chen Liu,David R. Nelson +6 more
TL;DR: CD4+CD25+ T lymphocytes constitute a highly differentiated population and appear to play a role in viral persistence by suppressing HCV‐specific T cell responses in a cell–cell contact manner.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regulation of intestinal inflammation by microbiota following allogeneic bone marrow transplantation
Robert R. Jenq,Robert R. Jenq,Carles Ubeda,Carles Ubeda,Ying Taur,Ying Taur,Clarissa C. Menezes,Raya Khanin,Jarrod A Dudakov,Chen Liu,Mallory L. West,Natalie V. Singer,Michele Equinda,Asia Gobourne,Lauren Lipuma,Lauren F. Young,Odette M. Smith,Arnab Ghosh,Alan M. Hanash,Alan M. Hanash,Jenna D. Goldberg,Jenna D. Goldberg,Kazutoshi Aoyama,Bruce R. Blazar,Eric G. Pamer,Marcel R.M. van den Brink +25 more
TL;DR: GVHD is associated with significant shifts in the composition of the intestinal microbiota in human and mouse models; manipulating the microbiota can alter the severity of GVHD in mice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acute graft-versus-host disease does not require alloantigen expression on host epithelium
Takanori Teshima,Rainer Ordemann,Pavan Reddy,Svetlana Gagin,Chen Liu,Kenneth R. Cooke,James L.M. Ferrara +6 more
TL;DR: It is found that acute GvHD does not require alloantigen expression on host target epithelium and that neutralization of tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-1 prevents acute G vHD.
