Journal ArticleDOI
Toxicity, silver accumulation and metallothionein induction in freshwater rainbow trout during exposure to different silver salts
TL;DR: In this article, the same authors performed static-renewal 168-h toxicity tests of silver nitrate (AgNO{sub 3}), silver chloride (AgCl{sub n}), and silver thiosulfate (Ag(S{sub 2}O{sub3}){sub n}) with juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhyncus mykiss) by standard methods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risks for human health related to the presence of 3- and 2-monochloropropanediol (MCPD), and their fatty acid esters, and glycidyl fatty acid esters in food
Heather M. Wallace,Alexander Jan,Lars Barregård,Margherita Bignami,Sandra Ceccatelli,Bruce Cottrill,Michael Dinovi,Lutz Edler,Bettina Grasl-Kraupp,Christer Hogstrand,Laurentius Hoogenboom,Helle Katrine Knutsen,Carlo Nebbia,Isabelle P Oswald,Annette Petersen,Vera Maria Rogiers,Martin Rose,Alain-Claude Roudot,Tanja Schwerdtle,Christiane Vleminckx,Günter Vollmer +20 more
TL;DR: A scientific opinion on free and esterified 3- and 2-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (MCPD) and glycidyl esters in food was delivered and chronic treatment with glycidol increased the incidence of tumours in several tissues of rats and mice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risks for human health related to the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in honey, tea, herbal infusions and food supplements
Helle Katrine Knutsen,Jan Alexander,Lars Barregård,Margherita Bignami,Beat Johannes Brüschweiler,Sandra Ceccatelli,Bruce Cottrill,Michael Dinovi,Lutz Edler,Bettina Grasl-Kraupp,Christer Hogstrand,Laurentius Hoogenboom,Carlo Nebbia,Isabelle P Oswald,Annette Petersen,Martin Rose,Alain-Claude Roudot,Tanja Schwerdtle,Christiane Vleminckx,Günter Vollmer,Heather M. Wallace,Jose Ángel Gómez Ruiz,Marco Binaglia +22 more
TL;DR: There is a possible concern for human health related to the exposure to PAs, in particular for frequent and high consumers of tea and herbal infusions, according to the EFSA Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of zinc on the kinetics of branchial calcium uptake in freshwater rainbow trout during adaptation to waterborne zinc.
TL;DR: It is hypothesize that, during exposure to sublethal [Zn2+] in hard water, the fish may change the Km for a mutual Ca2+/Zn 2+ carrier so as to reduce markedly Zn2- influx without greatly altering Ca2+, and may be the basis of adaptation to elevated concentrations of waterborne Zn 2+.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tissue-specific cadmium accumulation, metallothionein induction, and tissue zinc and copper levels during chronic sublethal cadmium exposure in juvenile rainbow trout.
TL;DR: Total metal levels (Cd + Zn + Cu) greatly exceeded MT binding capacity in all tissues under all conditions, and after chronic Cd exposure remained sufficient in liver and kidney, but not in gills.
