Journal ArticleDOI
Short Communication: HIV Type 1 Subtype C Variants Transmitted Through the Bottleneck of Breastfeeding Are Sensitive to New Generation Broadly Neutralizing Antibodies Directed Against Quaternary and CD4-Binding Site Epitopes
Elizabeth S. Russell,Suany Ojeda,Genevieve G. Fouda,Steven R. Meshnick,David C. Montefiori,Sallie R. Permar,Ronald Swanstrom +6 more
TL;DR: Transmitted envs were resistant to neutralization by antibodies 2G12 and 2F5, but were generally sensitive to the more broadlyneutralizing PG9, PG16, and VRC01, indicating that this new generation of broadly neutralizing monoclonal antibodies could be efficacious in passive immunization strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative immunogenicity in rhesus monkeys of multi-protein HIV-1 (CRF02_AG) DNA/MVA vaccines expressing mature and immature VLPs
Dennis Ellenberger,Linda S. Wyatt,Bin Li,Suzan L. Buge,Nattawan Lanier,I. Vanesssa Rodriguez,Carlos A. Sariol,Melween I. Martínez,Michael Monsour,Jennifer Vogt,James M. Smith,Ronald A. Otten,David C. Montefiori,Edmundo Kraiselburd,Bernard Moss,Harriet L. Robinson,Janet M. McNicholl,Salvatore T. Butera +17 more
TL;DR: The results indicated that the vaccines elicited high frequency T cell responses and primed anti-Env antibody and suggest that expression of different forms of VLP has a significant effect on elicited cellular and humoral immunity.
Design of an Escherichia coli Expressed HIV-1 gp120 Fragment Immunogen That Binds to b12 and Induces Broad
Sanchari Bhattacharyya,Pranveer Singh,Ujjwal Rathore,Mansi Purwar,Denise Wagner,Heather Arendt,Joanne DeStefano,Celia C. LaBranche,David C. Montefiori,Sanjay Phogat,Raghavan Varadarajan +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, two small fragments of HIV-1 gp120, b121a and b122a, which display about 70% of the b12 epitope and include solubility-enhancing mutations, were designed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Protective Immunity to SIV Challenge Elicited by Vaccination of Macaques with Multigenic DNA Vaccines Producing Virus-Like Particles
Sally P. Mossman,Christopher C. Pierce,Andrew Watson,Michael N. Robertson,David C. Montefiori,LaRene Kuller,Barbra A. Richardson,Jeffrey D. Bradshaw,Robert J. Munn,Shiu Lok Hu,Philip D. Greenberg,Raoul E. Benveniste,Nancy L. Haigwood +12 more
TL;DR: Humoral immune responses to Env gp160 were elicited and sustained by both vaccine protocols, and as expected antibody titers were higher in the protein subunit-boosted animals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Boosting of ALVAC-SIV Vaccine-Primed Macaques with the CD4-SIVgp120 Fusion Protein Elicits Antibodies to V2 Associated with a Decreased Risk of SIVmac251 Acquisition.
Shari N. Gordon,Namal P.M. Liyanage,Melvin N. Doster,Monica Vaccari,Diego A. Vargas-Inchaustegui,Poonam Pegu,Luca Schifanella,Xiaoying Shen,Georgia D. Tomaras,Mangala Rao,Erik Billings,Jennifer Schwartz,Ilia Prado,Kathryn Bobb,Wenlei Zhang,David C. Montefiori,Kathryn E. Foulds,Guido Ferrari,Marjorie Robert-Guroff,Mario Roederer,Tran B. Phan,Donald N. Forthal,Donald Stablein,Sanjay Phogat,David Venzon,Timothy R. Fouts,Genoveffa Franchini +26 more
TL;DR: It is hypothesized that the breadth and functional profile of Abs induced by an ALVAC/envelope protein regimen could be improved by substituting the monomeric gp120 boost, with the full-length single-chain (FLSC) protein.
