Journal ArticleDOI
Noninvasive imaging in cardiovascular therapy: the promise of coronary arterial ¹⁸F-sodium fluoride uptake as a marker of plaque biology.
TL;DR: In a cohort of 119 patients, PET/ CT imaging using F-FDG to detect plaque inflammation and F-sodium f luoride (F-NaF) to image calcification was performed, being hampered by myocardial uptake from which it was difficult to isolate activity in the coronary.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antithrombotic Effects of Combined PAR (Protease-Activated Receptor)-4 Antagonism and Factor Xa Inhibition.
Mohammed N. Meah,Jennifer Raftis,Simon Wilson,Vidya Perera,Samira Garonzik,Bindu Murthy,J. Gerry Everlof,Ronald Aronson,Joseph Luettgen,David E. Newby +9 more
TL;DR: In the presence of factor Xa inhibition, PAR4 antagonism with BMS-986141 further reduces thrombus formation, especially under conditions of high shear stress, which suggests the potential for additive efficacy of combination PAR 4 antagonism and factorXa inhibition in the prevention of atherothrombotic events.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating plasma cortisol concentrations are not associated with coronary artery disease or peripheral vascular disease
Rebecca M. Reynolds,B. Ilyas,Jackie F. Price,F. G. R. Fowkes,David E. Newby,David J. Webb,B. R. Walker +6 more
TL;DR: A single measurement of circulating cortisol is a poor predictor of vascular disease, and more detailed characterization of the HPA axis is necessary to determine the role of circulating endogenous glucocorticoids and their responsiveness to stress in atherosclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
The endothelin system in cardiovascular disease
David E. Newby,David J. Webb +1 more
TL;DR: Endothelin-1 is a recently discovered endothelium derived vasoconstrictor and pressor peptide with mitogenic properties which is now recognised to influence basal vascular tone and blood pressure and may provide an important new approach to the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence and clinical implications of valvular calcification on coronary computed tomography angiography.
Michelle C. Williams,Michelle C. Williams,Daniele Massera,Alastair J Moss,Rong Bing,Anda Bularga,Philip D Adamson,Philip D Adamson,Amanda Hunter,Shirjel Alam,Anoop S V Shah,Tania Pawade,Giles Roditi,Edwin J R van Beek,Edward D. Nicol,David E. Newby,David E. Newby,Marc R. Dweck,Marc R. Dweck +18 more
TL;DR: Aortic and mitral valve calcification occurs in one in six patients with stable chest pain undergoing CCTA and is associated with concomitant coronary atherosclerosis.
