Percutaneous coronary intervention causes a rapid but transient mobilisation of CD34(+)CD45(-) cells.
Gareth J. Padfield,Olga Tura-Ceide,Elizabeth Freyer,G. Robin Barclay,Marc Turner,David E. Newby,Nicholas L. Mills +6 more
TL;DR: PCI transiently increases circulatingCD34+CD45− cells, without increasing CD34+ adhesion molecule expression or VEGF-A concentrations, suggesting that CD34-CD45+ cells may be mobilised from the vessel wall directly as a result of mechanical injury.
Journal ArticleDOI
Valvular heart disease: a call for global collaborative research initiatives
John C. Chambers,Benoy N. Shah,Bernard D. Prendergast,Patricia V. Lawford,Gerry P McCann,David E. Newby,Simon Ray,Norman Briffa,David Shanson,Guy Lloyd,Roger Hall +10 more
TL;DR: There is an urgent need to stimulate the investigation of deficits in knowledge which may be amenable to research and a call for national and international collaborative efforts to address this evidence gap.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detecting unstable plaques in humans using cardiac CT: Can it guide treatments?
Marwa Daghem,David E. Newby +1 more
TL;DR: This review will focus on coronary imaging with CT with a specific focus on the detection of coronary atherosclerosis, high‐risk plaque features, and the implications for patient management.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between hypertension and retinal vascular features in ultra-widefield fundus imaging.
Gavin Robertson,Alan Fleming,Michelle C. Williams,Emanuele Trucco,Nicola Quinn,Ruth E Hogg,Gareth J. McKay,Frank Kee,Ian S. Young,Enrico Pellegrini,David E. Newby,Edwin J R van Beek,Tunde Peto,Baljean Dhillon,Jano van Hemert,Tom MacGillivray +15 more
TL;DR: Semiautomated measurements of NA-AVR in ultra-widefield fundus imaging were associated with hypertension, and showed differences between left and right eyes, highlighting the importance of investigating both eyes of a patient.
Posted ContentDOI
High-sensitivity cardiac troponin on presentation to rule out myocardial infarction: a stepped-wedge cluster randomised controlled trial
Atul Anand,Kuan Ken Lee,Andrew R. Chapman,Amy V. Ferry,P. Adamson,P. Adamson,Fiona E. Strachan,Colin Berry,Iain N Findlay,Anne Cruikshank,Alan Reid,Paul O. Collinson,Fred S. Apple,David A. McAllister,Donogh Maguire,Keith A.A. Fox,David E. Newby,Chris Tuck,Ronald Harkess,Catriona Keerie,Christopher J. Weir,Richard A Parker,Alasdair Gray,Alasdair Gray,Anoop S V Shah,Nicholas L. Mills +25 more
TL;DR: Implementation of an early rule-out pathway for myocardial infarction reduced length of stay and hospital admission and there was no increase in cardiac events at 1 year.
