Journal ArticleDOI
Ferroelectricity in strain-free SrTiO3 thin films.
Ho Won Jang,Amit Kumar,Sava Denev,M. D. Biegalski,Petro Maksymovych,Chung Wung Bark,C. T. Nelson,Chad M. Folkman,Seung Hyub Baek,Nina Balke,Charles M. Brooks,Charles M. Brooks,Dmitri A. Tenne,D. G. Schlom,Long Qing Chen,Xiaoqing Pan,Sergei V. Kalinin,Venkatraman Gopalan,Chang-Beom Eom +18 more
TL;DR: All SrTiO3 films and bulk crystals are relaxor ferroelectrics, and the role of strain is to stabilize longer-range correlation of preexisting nanopolar regions, likely originating from minute amounts of unintentional Sr deficiency in nominally stoichiometric samples.
Journal ArticleDOI
Strain-induced polarization rotation in epitaxial (001) BiFeO3 thin films.
Ho Won Jang,Seung Hyub Baek,Daniel Ortiz,Chad M. Folkman,Rasmi R. Das,Ying-Hao Chu,Padraic Shafer,J. X. Zhang,Somnath Choudhury,V. Vaithyanathan,Yanbin Chen,D. A. Felker,M. D. Biegalski,Mark Rzchowski,Xiaoqing Pan,Darrell G. Schlom,Long Qing Chen,Ramamoorthy Ramesh,Chang-Beom Eom +18 more
TL;DR: Thermodynamic analysis reveals that a strain-induced polarization rotation mechanism is responsible for the large change in the out-of-plane polarization of (001) BiFeO3 with biaxial strain while the spontaneous polarization itself remains almost constant.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultraselective and sensitive detection of xylene and toluene for monitoring indoor air pollution using Cr-doped NiO hierarchical nanostructures
TL;DR: Significant enhancement of the response and selectivity to o-xylene and toluene is attributed to the decrease in the hole concentration in NiO and the catalytic oxidation of methyl groups by Cr doping.
Journal ArticleDOI
Template engineering of Co-doped BaFe2As2 single-crystal thin films.
Sanghan Lee,Jianyi Jiang,Yi Zhang,Chung Wung Bark,Jeremy D Weiss,Chiara Tarantini,C. T. Nelson,Ho Won Jang,Chad M. Folkman,Seung Hyub Baek,Anatolii Polyanskii,Dmytro Abraimov,Akiyasu Yamamoto,Jae-Wan Park,Xiaoqing Pan,Eric E. Hellstrom,David C. Larbalestier,Chang-Beom Eom +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a template engineering approach was proposed to match the alkaline-earth layer in the BaFe(2)As/oxygen layer of the BaTiO(3) template.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tailoring a two-dimensional electron gas at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 (001) interface by epitaxial strain
Chung Wung Bark,D. A. Felker,Yong Wang,Yi Zhang,Ho Won Jang,Chad M. Folkman,J. W. Park,Seung Hyub Baek,Hua Zhou,Dillon D. Fong,Xiaoqing Pan,Evgeny Y. Tsymbal,Mark Rzchowski,Chang-Beom Eom +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the relationship between the strain and electrical properties of the 2DEG at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 heterointerface was investigated, and it was shown that strain-induced electric polarization in the Sr TiO3 layer is responsible for this behavior.
