Direct observation of half-metallicity in the Heusler compound Co2MnSi
Martin Jourdan,Jan Minár,Jürgen Braun,Alexander Kronenberg,Stanislav Chadov,Benjamin Balke,Andrei Gloskovskii,M. Kolbe,Hans-Joachim Elmers,Gerd Schönhense,Hubert Ebert,Claudia Felser,Mathias Kläui +12 more
TL;DR: This work investigates epitaxial thin films of the compound Co2MnSi in situ by ultraviolet-photoemission spectroscopy, taking advantage of a novel multi-channel spin filter and shows a highly spin polarized bulk-like surface resonance ingrained in a half metallic bulk band structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Large magnetic gap at the Dirac point in Bi2Te3/MnBi2Te4 heterostructures.
E. D. L. Rienks,E. D. L. Rienks,E. D. L. Rienks,S. Wimmer,Jaime Sánchez-Barriga,Ondřej Caha,P. S. Mandal,P. S. Mandal,Jiří Růžička,Andreas Ney,H. Steiner,Valentine V. Volobuev,Valentine V. Volobuev,Valentine V. Volobuev,Heiko Groiss,M. Albu,G. Kothleitner,Jan Michalička,Saleem Ayaz Khan,Jan Minár,Hubert Ebert,G. Bauer,F. Freyse,F. Freyse,Andrei Varykhalov,Oliver Rader,G. Springholz +26 more
TL;DR: The anomalous quantum Hall effect is observed in edge channels of topological insulators when there is a magnetic energy gap at the Dirac point; this gap has now been observed by low-temperature photoelectron spectroscopy in Mn-doped Bi2Te3.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bulk electronic structure of the dilute magnetic semiconductor Ga 1− x Mn x As through hard X-ray angle-resolved photoemission
Alexander X. Gray,Jan Minár,Shigenori Ueda,P. R. Stone,P. R. Stone,Yoshiyuki Yamashita,Jun Fujii,Jürgen Braun,Lukasz Plucinski,Christian Schneider,G. Panaccione,Hubert Ebert,Oscar D. Dubon,Oscar D. Dubon,Keisuke Kobayashi,Charles S. Fadley,Charles S. Fadley +16 more
TL;DR: Direct observation of Mn-induced states between the GaAs valence-band maximum and the Fermi level indicates that ferromagnetism in Ga(1-x)Mn(x)As must be considered to arise from both p-d exchange and double exchange, thus providing a more unifying picture of this controversial material.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nonmagnetic band gap at the Dirac point of the magnetic topological insulator (Bi1−xMnx)2Se3
Jaime Sánchez-Barriga,Andrei Varykhalov,G. Springholz,H. Steiner,R. Kirchschlager,G. Bauer,Ondrej Caha,Enrico Schierle,Eugen Weschke,Ahmet Unal,Sergio Valencia,M. Dunst,Jürgen Braun,Hubert Ebert,Jan Minár,Jan Minár,E. Golias,Lada V. Yashina,Andreas Ney,Václav Holý,Oliver Rader +20 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that strong resonant scattering processes cause the gap at the Dirac point and the system remains topologically nontrivial, establishing a mechanism for gap opening in topological surface states which challenges the currently known conditions for topological protection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mixed dimensionality of confined conducting electrons in the surface region of SrTiO3.
Nicholas C. Plumb,Marco Salluzzo,Elia Razzoli,Martin Månsson,Martin Månsson,Martin Månsson,M. Falub,J. Krempasky,C. E. Matt,C. E. Matt,Johan Juul Chang,Johan Juul Chang,M. Schulte,Jürgen Braun,Hubert Ebert,Jan Minár,Jan Minár,Bernard Delley,K. J. Zhou,Thorsten Schmitt,Ming Shi,Joël Mesot,Joël Mesot,Joël Mesot,L. Patthey,Milan Radovic,Milan Radovic +26 more
TL;DR: It is revealed that changes in the oxygen valence band spectral weight that coincide with the emergence of surface conductivity are disproportionate to any change in the total intensity of the O 1s core level spectrum.
