Electronic Structure of Atomically Precise Graphene Nanoribbons
Pascal Ruffieux,Jinming Cai,Nicholas C. Plumb,Luc Patthey,Deborah Prezzi,Andrea Ferretti,Elisa Molinari,Xinliang Feng,Klaus Müllen,Carlo A. Pignedoli,Roman Fasel,Roman Fasel +11 more
TL;DR: The electronic band gap and dispersion of the occupied electronic bands of atomically precise graphene nanoribbons fabricated via on-surface synthesis are reported on and are in quantitative agreement with theoretical predictions that include image charge corrections accounting for screening by the metal substrate and confirm the importance of electron-electron interactions in graphene nan oribbons.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observation of Weyl nodes and Fermi arcs in tantalum phosphide
Nan Xu,Hongming Weng,B. Q. Lv,B. Q. Lv,Christian Matt,J. Park,Federico Bisti,Vladimir N. Strocov,Dariusz Jakub Gawryluk,Ekaterina Pomjakushina,Kazimierz Conder,Nicholas C. Plumb,Milan Radovic,Gabriel Autès,Oleg V. Yazyev,Zhong Fang,Xi Dai,Tianmei Qian,Joël Mesot,Joël Mesot,Joël Mesot,Hong Ding,Ming Shi +22 more
TL;DR: It is shown that TaP is a Weyl semimetal with only a single type of Weyl fermions, topologically distinguished from TaAs where two types of Weylefermions contribute to the low-energy physical properties.
Journal ArticleDOI
On-Surface Synthesis and Characterization of 9-Atom Wide Armchair Graphene Nanoribbons
Leopold Talirz,Hajo Söde,Tim Dumslaff,Shiyong Wang,Juan R. Sanchez-Valencia,Jia Liu,Prashant P. Shinde,Carlo A. Pignedoli,Liangbo Liang,Liangbo Liang,Vincent Meunier,Nicholas C. Plumb,Ming Shi,Xinliang Feng,Akimitsu Narita,Klaus Müllen,Roman Fasel,Pascal Ruffieux +17 more
TL;DR: The synthesis of an armchair graphene nanoribbon with a width of nine carbon atoms on Au(111) through surface-assisted aryl-aryl coupling and subsequent cyclodehydrogenation of a properly chosen molecular precursor is reported.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tailoring the nature and strength of electron-phonon interactions in the SrTiO3(001) 2D electron liquid.
Zhiming Wang,Zhiming Wang,S. McKeown Walker,Anna Tamai,Yao Wang,Yao Wang,Zoran Ristić,Flavio Y. Bruno,A. de la Torre,S. Riccò,Nicholas C. Plumb,Ming Shi,P. Hlawenka,Jaime Sánchez-Barriga,Andrei Varykhalov,Timur K. Kim,Moritz Hoesch,Phil D. C. King,Worawat Meevasana,Ulrike Diebold,Joël Mesot,Joël Mesot,Joël Mesot,Brian Moritz,Thomas P. Devereaux,Thomas P. Devereaux,Milan Radovic,Felix Baumberger,Felix Baumberger,Felix Baumberger +29 more
TL;DR: The prototypical two-dimensional electron liquid at the SrTiO3(001) surface is used to reveal a remarkably complex evolution of electron-phonon coupling with the tunable carrier density of this system, and constraints on the theoretical description of superconductivity are placed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Direct observation of the spin texture in SmB6 as evidence of the topological Kondo insulator
Nan Xu,Pabitra Kumar Biswas,Jan Hugo Dil,Rajendra S. Dhaka,Rajendra S. Dhaka,Gabriel Landolt,Stefan Muff,Stefan Muff,Christian Matt,X. Shi,Nicholas C. Plumb,Milan Radovic,Ekaterina Pomjakushina,Kazimierz Conder,Anthony A. Amato,Sergey Borisenko,Runze Yu,Hongming Weng,Zhen Fang,Xingchao Dai,Joël Mesot,Hong Ding,Ming Shi +22 more
TL;DR: These results provide strong evidence that SmB6 can host topological surface states in a bulk insulating gap stemming from the Kondo effect, which can serve as an ideal platform for investigating of the interplay between novel topological quantum states with emergent effects and competing orders induced by strongly correlated electrons.
