Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of previous corticosteroid therapy on temporal artery biopsy yield in giant cell arteritis.
Javier Narváez,Berta Bernad,Daniel Roig-Vilaseca,Carmen García-Gómez,Carmen Gómez-Vaquero,Xavier Juanola,Jesus Rodriguez-Moreno,Joan M. Nolla,José Valverde +8 more
TL;DR: In patients that developed GCA on a background of a prior history of polymyalgia rheumatica, a late TAB is also generally informative despite long-term treatment with low doses of corticosteroids.
Journal ArticleDOI
A large-scale genetic analysis reveals a strong contribution of the HLA class II region to giant cell arteritis susceptibility.
F. David Carmona,Sarah L. Mackie,Jose Ezequiel Martin,John C. Taylor,Augusto Vaglio,Stephen Eyre,Lara Bossini-Castillo,Santos Castañeda,Maria C. TL;DR: This study provides evidence of a strong contribution of HLA class I and II molecules to susceptibility to GCA, and confirmed a key role for the functional PTPN22 rs2476601 variant and proposed other putative risk loci involved in Th1, Th17, and Treg cell function.
Journal ArticleDOI
MR imaging of synovial tumors and tumor-like lesions.
TL;DR: The goal is to review the MR features of pigmented villonodular synovitis, giant-cell tumor of the tendon sheath, synovial chondromatosis, synovial hemangioma, lipoma arborescens, Synovial cysts and synovials sarcoma, emphasizing those findings that suggest a specific diagnosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Giant cell arteritis and polymyalgia rheumatica: usefulness of vascular magnetic resonance imaging studies in the diagnosis of aortitis
TL;DR: MRI may be a useful technique for diagnosing patients with occult major artery involvement in GCA, whether presenting with classic symptoms of temporal arteritis or PMR, and its utility for monitoring the course of the disease and response to treatment requires further confirmation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tocilizumab in giant cell arteritis: Multicenter open-label study of 22 patients
Javier Loricera,Ricardo Blanco,José L. Hernández,Santos Castañeda,Antonio Mera,Eva Perez-Pampin,Peiró E,A. Humbría,Jaime Calvo-Alén,Elena Aurrecoechea,Javier Narváez,A. TL;DR: TCZ therapy leads to rapid and maintained improvement in patients with refractory GCA and/or with unacceptable side effects related to corticosteroids, however, the risk of infection should be kept in mind when using this drug in Patients with GCA.
