Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of the frequencies of HLA-A, B, and C alleles and haplotypes in the five major ethnic groups of the United States reveals high levels of diversity in these loci and contrasting distribution patterns in these populations.
K. Cao,Jill A. Hollenbach,Xuejiang Shi,Wenxia Shi,Michael Chopek,Marcelo Fernandez-Vina,Marcelo Fernandez-Vina +6 more
TL;DR: Differences in both LD and heterozygosity levels suggest distinct evolutionary histories of the HLA loci in the geographical regions from where the U.S. populations originated.
Journal ArticleDOI
The immunogenetics of multiple sclerosis: A comprehensive review
TL;DR: Despite the remarkable molecular dissection of the HLA region in MS, further studies are needed to generate unifying models to account for the role of the MHC in disease pathogenesis and application of modern sequencing methodologies coupled with state of the art bioinformatics and analytical approaches will permit us to fully appreciate the impact of HLA and KIR variation in MS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Silent progression in disease activity-free relapsing multiple sclerosis.
Bruce A.C. Cree,Jill A. Hollenbach,Riley Bove,Gina Kirkish,Simone Sacco,Eduardo Caverzasi,Antje Bischof,Tristan Gundel,Alyssa H. Zhu,Nico Papinutto,William A. Stern,Carolyn Bevan,Andrew R Romeo,Douglas S. Goodin,Jeffrey M. Gelfand,Jennifer Graves,Ari J. Green,Michael R. Wilson,Scott S. Zamvil,Chao Zhao,Refujia Gomez,Nicholas R Ragan,Gillian Rush,Patrick Barba,Adam Santaniello,Sergio E. Baranzini,Jorge R. Oksenberg,Roland G. Henry,Stephen L. Hauser +28 more
TL;DR: It is determined to what extent clinical relapses and radiographic evidence of disease activity contribute to long‐term disability accumulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Common and well-documented HLA alleles: 2012 update to the CWD catalogue.
Steven J. Mack,Pedro Cano,Jill A. Hollenbach,Jun He,Carolyn Katovich Hurley,Derek Middleton,M. E. Moraes,Shalini E. Pereira,Jane Kempenich,Elaine F. Reed,Michelle Setterholm,Anajane G. Smith,Marcel G.J. Tilanus,Margareth Torres,Michael D. Varney,Christien Voorter,Gottfried Fischer,Katharina Fleischhauer,Damian Goodridge,William Klitz,AM Little,Martin Maiers,Steven G.E. Marsh,Carlheinz Müller,Harriet Noreen,Erik H. Rozemuller,Alicia Sanchez-Mazas,David Senitzer,Elizabeth Trachtenberg,Marcelo Fernandez-Vina +29 more
TL;DR: The CWD catalogue will be updated on a regular basis moving forward, and will incorporate changes to the IMGT/HLA Database as well as empirical data from the histocompatibility and immunogenetics community.
Journal ArticleDOI
Defining KIR and HLA Class I Genotypes at Highest Resolution via High-Throughput Sequencing
Paul Norman,Jill A. Hollenbach,Neda Nemat-Gorgani,Wesley M. Marin,Steven Norberg,Elham Ashouri,Jyothi Jayaraman,Emily E. Wroblewski,John Trowsdale,Raja Rajalingam,Jorge R. Oksenberg,Jacques Chiaroni,Lisbeth A. Guethlein,James A. Traherne,Mostafa Ronaghi,Peter Parham +15 more
TL;DR: The method developed is suited to the large-scale analyses that are needed for characterizing human populations and defining the precise HLA and KIR factors associated with disease and are applicable to other highly polymorphic genes.
