Journal ArticleDOI
Markov chain Monte Carlo without likelihoods
TL;DR: A Markov chain Monte Carlo method for generating observations from a posterior distribution without the use of likelihoods is presented, which can be used in frequentist applications, in particular for maximum-likelihood estimation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome-Wide Association Mapping in Arabidopsis Identifies Previously Known Flowering Time and Pathogen Resistance Genes
Maria José Aranzana,Sung K. Kim,Keyan Zhao,E. G. Bakker,Matthew W. Horton,Katrin Jakob,Clare Lister,John Molitor,Chikako Shindo,Chunlao Tang,Christopher Toomajian,Brian Traw,Honggang Zheng,Joy Bergelson,Caroline Dean,Paul Marjoram,Magnus Nordborg +16 more
TL;DR: The feasibility of genome-wide association mapping in A. thaliana was tested by searching for associations with flowering time and pathogen resistance in a sample of 95 accessions for which genome- wide polymorphism data were available, and known major genes were identified for all phenotypes tested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association between Common Variation at the FTO Locus and Changes in Body Mass Index from Infancy to Late Childhood: The Complex Nature of Genetic Association through Growth and Development
Ulla Sovio,Dennis O. Mook-Kanamori,Nicole M. Warrington,Robert W. Lawrence,Laurent Briollais,Colin N. A. Palmer,Joanne E. Cecil,Johanna K. Sandling,Ann-Christine Syvänen,Marika Kaakinen,Lawrie J. Beilin,Iona Y. Millwood,Iona Y. Millwood,Amanda J. Bennett,Jaana Laitinen,Anneli Pouta,John Molitor,George Davey Smith,Yoav Ben-Shlomo,Vincent W. V. Jaddoe,Lyle J. Palmer,Craig E. Pennell,Tim J Cole,Mark I. McCarthy,Mark I. McCarthy,Mark I. McCarthy,Marjo-Riitta Järvelin,Nicholas J. Timpson +27 more
TL;DR: The expected association between variation at rs9939609 and BMI in childhood is confirmed, but only after an inverse association between the same variant and BMIin infancy is confirmed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bayesian profile regression with an application to the National Survey of Children's Health.
TL;DR: This work proposes a method that addresses problems for categorical covariates by using, as its basic unit of inference, a profile formed from a sequence of covariate values, which is clustered into groups and associated via a regression model to a relevant outcome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic determinants of height growth assessed longitudinally from infancy to adulthood in the northern Finland birth cohort 1966
Ulla Sovio,Amanda J. Bennett,Iona Y. Millwood,John Molitor,Paul F. O'Reilly,Nicholas J. Timpson,Marika Kaakinen,Jaana Laitinen,Jari Haukka,Demetris Pillas,Ioanna Tzoulaki,Jassy Molitor,Clive J. Hoggart,Lachlan J. M. Coin,John-Paul Whittaker,Anneli Pouta,Anna-Liisa Hartikainen,Nelson B. Freimer,Nelson B. Freimer,Elisabeth Widen,Leena Peltonen,Leena Peltonen,Paul Elliott,Mark I. McCarthy,Marjo-Riitta Järvelin +24 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors derived peak height velocity in infancy and puberty (PHV1) and timing of pubertal height growth spurt from parametric growth curves fitted to longitudinal height growth data to test their association with known height variants.
