Effects of dark matter substructures on gravitational lensing: results from the Aquarius simulations
Dandan Xu,Shude Mao,Jie Wang,Volker Springel,Liang Gao,Liang Gao,Simon D. M. White,Carlos S. Frenk,Adrian Jenkins,Guoliang Li,Julio F. Navarro +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the high-resolution Aquarius simulations of the formation of Milky Way-sized halos in the Λ cold dark matter cosmology to study the effects of dark matter substructures on gravitational lensing.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Many lives of AGN: Cooling flows, black holes and the luminosities and colours of galaxies
Darren J. Croton,G. Kauffmann,Volker Springel,Simon D. M. White,G. De Lucia,Adrian Jenkins,Julio F. Navarro,Carlos S. Frenk,Liang Gao,Naoki Yoshida +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, a model for radio feedback from those AGNs that lie at the centre of a quasistatic X-ray emitting atmosphere in a galaxy group or cluster is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Satellites of simulated galaxies: survival, merging and their relationto the dark and stellar haloes
Laura V. Sales,Laura V. Sales,Julio F. Navarro,Mario G. Abadi,Mario G. Abadi,Mario G. Abadi,Matthias Steinmetz +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the population of satellite galaxies formed in a suite of N-body/gas-dynamical simulations of galaxy formation in a cold dark matter universe was studied.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observational Properties of the Metal-poor Thick Disk of the Milky Way and Insights into its Origins
Gregory R. Ruchti,J. P. Fulbright,Rosemary F. G. Wyse,Gerard Gilmore,Olivier Bienaymé,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Brad K. Gibson,Eva K. Grebel,Amina Helmi,Ulisse Munari,Julio F. Navarro,Quentin A. Parker,Warren A. Reid,George M. Seabroke,Arnaud Siebert,Alessandro Siviero,Matthias Steinmetz,Fred G. Watson,Mary E K Williams,Tomaž Zwitter +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a sample of 214 red giant branch, 31 red clump/horizontal branch, and 74 main-sequence/sub-giant branch metal-poor stars was used to investigate the gradients in the metalpoor thick disk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mass-Discrepancy Acceleration Relation: A Natural Outcome of Galaxy Formation in Cold Dark Matter Halos.
Aaron D. Ludlow,Alejandro Benítez-Llambay,Matthieu Schaller,Tom Theuns,Carlos S. Frenk,Richard G. Bower,Joop Schaye,Robert A. Crain,Julio F. Navarro,Azadeh Fattahi,Kyle A. Oman +10 more
TL;DR: Analysis of the total and baryonic acceleration profiles of a set of well-resolved galaxies identified in the eagle suite of hydrodynamic simulations finds that galaxies exhibit a characteristic acceleration g_{†}, above which baryons dominate the mass budget, as observed.
