The RAVE-on catalog of stellar atmospheric parameters and chemical abundances for chemo-dynamic studies in the Gaia era
Andrew R. Casey,Keith Hawkins,David W. Hogg,Melissa Ness,Hans-Walter Rix,Georges Kordopatis,Andrea Kunder,Andrea Kunder,Matthias Steinmetz,Sergey E. Koposov,Harry Enke,Jason L. Sanders,Gerry Gilmore,Tomaž Zwitter,Kenneth C. Freeman,Luca Casagrande,Gal Matijevič,George M. Seabroke,Olivier Bienaymé,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Brad K. Gibson,Eva K. Grebel,Amina Helmi,Ulisse Munari,Julio F. Navarro,Warren A. Reid,Warren A. Reid,Arnaud Siebert,Rosemary F. G. Wyse +28 more
TL;DR: The Tycho-Gaia Astrometric Solution (TGAS) as discussed by the authors is the most powerful data set for chemo-dynamic analyses of the Milky Way ever produced.
Journal ArticleDOI
The rich are different : evidence from the RAVE survey for stellar radial migration
Georges Kordopatis,Georges Kordopatis,James Binney,Gerard Gilmore,Rosemary F. G. Wyse,Vasily Belokurov,Paul J. McMillan,P. W. Hatfield,P. W. Hatfield,Eva K. Grebel,Matthias Steinmetz,Julio F. Navarro,George M. Seabroke,Ivan Minchev,Cristina Chiappini,Olivier Bienaymé,Jonathan Bland-Hawthorn,Kenneth C. Freeman,Brad K. Gibson,Brad K. Gibson,Amina Helmi,Ulisse Munari,Quentin A. Parker,Quentin A. Parker,Warren A. Reid,A. Siebert,Alessandro Siviero,Tomaž Zwitter +27 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the existence and properties of supersolar metallicity stars in the sample, and in particular in the solar neighbourhood using the RAdial Velocity Experiment fourth data release (RAVE DR4).
Journal ArticleDOI
Identifying true satellites of the Magellanic Clouds.
TL;DR: In this paper, a cosmological numerical simulation of the disruption of a massive sub-halo in a Milky Way-sized ΛCDM halo was used to test whether any of the 20 dwarfs recently discovered in the Dark Energy Survey, the Survey of the MAgellanic Stellar History, Pan-STARRS, and ATLAS surveys are truly associated with the Magellanic Clouds.
Journal ArticleDOI
A new stellar chemo-kinematic relation reveals the merger history of the milky way disk
Ivan Minchev,Cristina Chiappini,Marie Martig,Matthias Steinmetz,R. S. de Jong,Corrado Boeche,Cecilia Scannapieco,Tomaž Zwitter,R. F. G. Wyse,James Binney,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Olivier Bienaymé,Benoit Famaey,Kenneth C. Freeman,Bradley Kenneth Gibson,Eva K. Grebel,Gerry Gilmore,Amina Helmi,Georges Kordopatis,Young Sun Lee,Ulisse Munari,Julio F. Navarro,Julio F. Navarro,Quentin A. Parker,Quentin A. Parker,Alice C. Quillen,Warren A. Reid,Arnaud Siebert,Alessandro Siviero,George M. Seabroke,Fred G. Watson,Mary E K Williams +31 more
TL;DR: The velocity dispersion of stars near the Sun is known to increase with stellar age, but age can be difficult to determine, so a proxy like the abundance of α elements (e.g., Mg) with respect to iron, [α/Fe], is used as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Galactic kinematics and dynamics from radial velocity experiment stars
James Binney,Benedict C M Burnett,Georges Kordopatis,Matthias Steinmetz,Gerard Gilmore,Olivier Bienaymé,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Benoit Famaey,Eva K. Grebel,Amina Helmi,Julio F. Navarro,Quentin A. Parker,Quentin A. Parker,Warren A. Reid,George M. Seabroke,Arnaud Siebert,Fred G. Watson,Mary E K Williams,Rosemary F. G. Wyse,Tomaž Zwitter +19 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyse the kinematics of 400,000 stars that lie within 2kpc of the Sun and have spectra measured in the RAdial Velocity Experiment (RAVE).
