The core–cusp problem: a matter of perspective
Anna Genina,Alejandro Benítez-Llambay,Carlos S. Frenk,Shaun Cole,Azadeh Fattahi,Julio F. Navarro,Kyle A. Oman,Till Sawala,Tom Theuns +8 more
TL;DR: The existence of two kinematically and chemically distinct stellar subpopulations in the Sculptor and Fornax dwarf galaxies offers the opportunity to constrain the density profile of their matter haloes by measuring the mass contained within the well-separated half-light radii of the two metallicity sub-populations as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
In the thick of it: metal-poor disc stars in RAVE
Georges Kordopatis,Gerard Gilmore,Rosemary F. G. Wyse,Matthias Steinmetz,Arnaud Siebert,Olivier Bienaymé,Paul J. McMillan,Ivan Minchev,Tomaž Zwitter,Brad K. Gibson,George M. Seabroke,Eva K. Grebel,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Corrado Boeche,Kenneth C. Freeman,Ulisse Munari,Julio F. Navarro,Quentin A. Parker,Quentin A. Parker,Warren A. Reid,Alessandro Siviero +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the Radial Velocity Experiment-fourth data release (RAVE-DR4) survey the stars located between 1 and 2 kpc above the Galactic plane to confirm that the metallicity and azimuthal velocity distribution functions of the thick disc are not Gaussian.
Journal ArticleDOI
No cores in dark matter-dominated dwarf galaxies with bursty star formation histories
Sownak Bose,Carlos S. Frenk,Adrian Jenkins,Azadeh Fattahi,Facundo A. Gómez,Robert J. J. Grand,Robert J. J. Grand,Federico Marinacci,Julio F. Navarro,Kyle A. Oman,Kyle A. Oman,Rüdiger Pakmor,Joop Schaye,Christine M. Simpson,Christine M. Simpson,Volker Springel,Volker Springel,Volker Springel +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the structure of CDM haloes of dwarf galaxies (MDM ∼ 109 − 5 × 1010 M⊙) formed in the APOSTLE (A Project of Simulating the Local Environment) and AURIGA cosmological hydrodynamic simulations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distance determination for RAVE stars using stellar models
Maarten A. Breddels,M. C. Smith,Amina Helmi,Olivier Bienaymé,James Binney,Joss Bland-Hawthorn,Corrado Boeche,Benedict C M Burnett,Randy D. Campbell,Kenneth C. Freeman,Brad K. Gibson,Gerard Gilmore,Eva K. Grebel,Ulisse Munari,Julio F. Navarro,Quentin A. Parker,George M. Seabroke,Arnaud Siebert,Alessandro Siviero,Matthias Steinmetz,Fred G. Watson,Mary E K Williams,Rosemary F. G. Wyse,Tomaž Zwitter +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used stellar models combined with atmospheric properties from RAVE (effective temperature, surface gravity and metallicity) and (J − Ks) photometry from archival sources to derive absolute magnitudes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clues to the 'Magellanic Galaxy' from cosmological simulations
Laura V. Sales,Julio F. Navarro,Andrew P. Cooper,Simon D. M. White,Carlos S. Frenk,Amina Helmi +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, cosmological simulations from the Aquarius Project were used to study the orbital history of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and its potential association with other satellites of the Milky Way (MW).
