Lanosterol reverses protein aggregation in cataracts
Ling Zhao,Xiang-Jun Chen,Jie Zhu,Yi-Bo Xi,Xu Yang,Li-Dan Hu,Hong Ouyang,Sherrina Patel,Xin Jin,Danni Lin,Frances Wu,Ken Flagg,Huimin Cai,Gen Li,Guiqun Cao,Ying Lin,Daniel Chen,Cindy Wen,Christopher Chung,Yandong Wang,Austin Qiu,Emily Yeh,Wenqiu Wang,Xun Hu,Seanna Grob,Ruben Abagyan,Zhiguang Su,Harry C. TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify two distinct homozygous LSS missense mutations (W581R and G588S) in two families with extensive congenital cataracts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lanosterol and 25-hydroxycholesterol dissociate crystallin aggregates isolated from cataractous human lens via different mechanisms
TL;DR: A quantitative assay applicable to efficacy validations and mechanistic studies by a protocol to isolate protein aggregates from the surgically removed cataractous human lens showed that both compounds were effective for human cataracts samples with EC50 values at ten micromolar level.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cataract-causing mutation S228P promotes βB1-crystallin aggregation and degradation by separating two interacting loops in C-terminal domain
TL;DR: It is proposed that these two interacting loops play an important role in the folding and structural stability of β/γ-crystallin domains by protecting the hydrophobic core from solvent access.
Journal ArticleDOI
Corrigendum: Lanosterol reverses protein aggregation in cataracts

TL;DR: This corrects the article to show that the H2O2/H2O/O2 balance is determined by a combination of H2A and O2 values, not necessarily reflecting a direct relationship between these numbers and each other.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lanosterol modulates proteostasis via dissolving cytosolic sequestosomes/aggresome-like induced structures
TL;DR: Lanosterol synthase and its enzymatic product lanosterol effectively reduced the number and/or size of sequestosomes/ALIS/aggresomes formed by endogenous proteins in the HeLa and HEK-293A cells cultured under both non-stressed and stressed conditions.
