TL;DR: The structural changes in PSII induced by two-flash illumination at room temperature at a resolution of 2.35 Å are described, providing a mechanism for the O=O bond formation consistent with that proposed previously.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Time-resolved serial femtosecond crystallography at an x-ray free electron laser shows how motions are choreographed as bR transports protons uphill against a transmembrane concentration gradient.
Journal ArticleDOI
An oxyl/oxo mechanism for oxygen-oxygen coupling in PSII revealed by an x-ray free-electron laser

TL;DR: To reveal the mechanism of water oxidation, structures of PSII in the S1, S2, and S3 states by x-ray free-electron laser serial crystallography reveal details of photosynthetic oxygen evolution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Geometric and electronic structure and reactivity of a mononuclear ‘side-on’ nickel( iii )–peroxo complex
Jaeheung Cho,Ritimukta Sarangi,Jamespandi Annaraj,Sung Yeon Kim,Minoru Kubo,Takashi Ogura,Edward I. Solomon,Wonwoo Nam +7 more
TL;DR: The present results demonstrate the significance of supporting ligands in tuning the geometric and electronic structures and reactivities of metal-O(2) intermediates that have been shown to have biological as well as synthetic usefulness in biomimetic reactions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mononuclear Copper(II)−Superoxo Complexes that Mimic the Structure and Reactivity of the Active Centers of PHM and DβM
Atsushi Kunishita,Minoru Kubo,Hideki Sugimoto,Takashi Ogura,Kazunobu Sato,Takeji Takui,Shinobu Itoh +6 more
TL;DR: The superoxo complexes 2(X)-OO(*) mimic the structure [tetrahedral geometry with an end-on (eta(1))-bound O(2)(*-)] and the aliphatic C-H bond activation chemistry of peptidylglycine alpha-hydroxylating monooxygenase and dopamine beta-monooxygenases.
