Genome Microevolution of Chikungunya Viruses Causing the Indian Ocean Outbreak
Isabelle Schuffenecker,Isabelle Iteman,Alain Michault,Séverine Murri,Lionel Frangeul,Marie-Christine Vaney,Marie-Christine Vaney,Rachel Lavenir,Nathalie Pardigon,Jean-Marc Reynes,François Pettinelli,Leon Biscornet,Laure Diancourt,Stéphanie Michel,Stéphane Duquerroy,Stéphane Duquerroy,Stéphane Duquerroy,Ghislaine Guigon,Marie-Pascale Frenkiel,Anne-Claire Brehin,Nadège Cubito,Philippe Desprès,Frank Kunst,Félix A. Rey,Félix A. Rey,Hervé Zeller,Sylvain Brisse +26 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that the chikungunya virus outbreak was initiated by a strain related to East-African isolates, from which viral variants have evolved following a traceable microevolution history and may be due to adaptation to the mosquito vector.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of the 5' and 3' ends of viral messenger RNAs isolated from BHK21 cells infected with Germiston virus (Bunyavirus).
TL;DR: Sequencing of the 5' terminal region from single molecules cloned into pBR327 revealed that these primers are rich in C and G residues and possess a U or a C adjacent to the viral sequence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative Analysis Between Flaviviruses Reveals Specific Neural Stem Cell Tropism for Zika Virus in the Mouse Developing Neocortex.
Jean-Baptiste Brault,Cécile Khou,Justine Basset,Laure Coquand,Vincent Fraisier,Marie-Pascale Frenkiel,Bruno Goud,Jean-Claude Manuguerra,Nathalie Pardigon,Alexandre D Baffet +9 more
TL;DR: An assay to infect mouse E15 embryonic brain slices with ZIKV, WNV and dengue virus serotype 4 (DENV-4) is described and it is shown that this tissue is able to support viral replication of ZikV and WNV, but not DENV- 4.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of polyamine biosynthesis is a broad-spectrum strategy against RNA viruses
Bryan C. Mounce,Teresa Cesaro,Gonzalo Moratorio,Peter Jan Hooikaas,Anna Yakovleva,Scott W. Werneke,Everett Clinton Smith,Enzo Z. Poirier,Etienne Simon-Loriere,Matthieu Prot,Carole Tamietti,Sandrine Vitry,Romain Volle,Cécile Khou,Marie-Pascale Frenkiel,Anavaj Sakuntabhai,Francis Delpeyroux,Francis Delpeyroux,Nathalie Pardigon,Marie Flamand,Giovanna Barba-Spaeth,Monique Lafon,Mark R. Denison,Matthew L. Albert,Matthew L. Albert,Marco Vignuzzi +25 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that diverse RNA viruses rely on the polyamine pathway for replication and polyamine biosynthesis as a promising drug target, as well as its potential as a target in the development of further antivirals or currently available molecules.
Journal ArticleDOI
Class II ADP-Ribosylation factors are required for efficient secretion of dengue viruses
Mateusz Kudelko,Jean-Baptiste Brault,Kevin W.H. Kwok,Ming Yuan Li,Nathalie Pardigon,J. S. Malik Peiris,Roberto Bruzzone,Roberto Bruzzone,Philippe Desprès,Béatrice Nal,Béatrice Nal,Peigang Wang +11 more
TL;DR: The findings shed new light on a molecular mechanism used by dengue viruses during the late stages of the life cycle and demonstrate a novel function for class II Arf proteins.
