Mechanisms of endoderm formation in a cartilaginous fish reveal ancestral and homoplastic traits in jawed vertebrates

TL;DR: Comparisons across vertebrates support the conclusion that endoderm is specified in two distinct temporal phases in the catshark as in all major osteichthyan lineages, in line with an ancient origin of a biphasic mode of endoderman specification in gnathostomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

BIOCOM-PIPE: a new user-friendly metabarcoding pipeline for the characterization of microbial diversity from 16S, 18S and 23S rRNA gene amplicons.

TL;DR: The BIOCOM-PIPE pipeline makes it possible to analyze 16S, 18S and 23S rRNA genes in the same packaged tool and defines a biological database from previously analyzed samples and performs post-clustering of reads with this reference database by using open-reference clustering.

Ecogenomics of key prokaryotes in the arctic ocean

TL;DR: This work reconstructed a total of 3,550 metagenomic bins from 41 seawater metagenomes collected as part of the Tara Oceans expedition, building the most comprehensive dataset of uncultured bacterial and archaeal genomes from the Arctic Ocean to date.
