Carles Vilariño-Güell,Christian Wider,Owen A. Ross,Justus C. Dachsel,Jennifer M. Kachergus,Sarah Lincoln,Alexandra I. Soto-Ortolaza,Stephanie A. Cobb,Greggory J. Wilhoite,Justin A. Bacon,Behrouz Bahareh Behrouz,Heather L. Melrose,Emna Hentati,Andreas Puschmann,Andreas Puschmann,Daniel M. Evans,Elizabeth Conibear,Wyeth W. Wasserman,Jan O. Aasly,Pierre R. Wszolek,François Vingerhoets,Matthew J. Farrer,Matthew J. Farrer +35 more
TL;DR: This study implicates disruption of VPS35 and retromer-mediated trans-membrane protein sorting, rescue, and recycling in the neurodegenerative process leading to PD.
Journal ArticleDOI
How do parkinsonian signs return after discontinuation of subthalamic DBS
P Temperli,J. Ghika,Jean-Guy Villemure,Pierre R. Burkhard,Julien Bogousslavsky,François Vingerhoets +5 more
TL;DR: STN DBS may act by different mechanisms on the four major parkinsonian signs, with a fast worsening of tremor within minutes, followed by a smoother, slower worsening of bradykinesia and rigidity over half an hour to an hour, and finally a slow and steady worsening of axial signs over 3 to 4 hours.
Journal ArticleDOI
A panel of cerebrospinal fluid potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.
Odile Carrette,Isabelle Demalte,Alexander Scherl,Oezkarn Yalkinoglu,Garry L. Corthals,Pierre R. Burkhard,Denis F. Hochstrasser,Jean-Charles Sanchez +7 more
TL;DR: The presence in the CSF of novel potential biomarkers for AD is demonstrated, which may be used for the diagnosis and perhaps the assessment of the severity and progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect on mood of subthalamic DBS for Parkinson's disease: a consecutive series of 24 patients.
Alexandre Berney,François Vingerhoets,A. Perrin,Patrice Guex,Jean-Guy Villemure,Pierre R. Burkhard,Chawki Benkelfat,J. Ghika +7 more
TL;DR: In six patients with subthalamic deep brain stimulation in PD, mood state worsened significantly, and three were transiently suicidal despite clear motor improvement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Levodopa in the treatment of Parkinson's disease: an old drug still going strong.
TL;DR: The issue of LD delivery as a critical factor for the drug’s propensity to induce motor complications is addressed and the available evidence regarding the use of LD to treat PD is summarized.
