Journal ArticleDOI

Haploidentical hematopoietic transplantation from KIR ligand–mismatched donors with activating KIRs reduces nonrelapse mortality

TL;DR: In vitro analyses showed that KIR2DS1 binding to its HLA-C2 ligand upregulated inflammatory cytokine production by alloreactive NK cells in response to infectious challenges showed that the role of donor activating KIRs in haploidentical hematopoietic transplants for acute leukemia was investigated.

TGF-beta is important in determining the in vivo patterns of susceptibility or resistance in mice infected with Candida albicans.

TL;DR: TGF-beta is established as a third cytokine, the presence of which may be required for optimal Th1 development leading to long-lived anticandidal resistance in mice infected with virulent C. albicans.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inhibition of human breast cancer cell (MCF-7) growth in vitro by the somatostatin analog SMS 201-995: effects on cell cycle parameters and apoptotic cell death.

TL;DR: It would, therefore, seem that SMS 201-995 exerts its inhibitory effect on MCF-7 cell growth in vitro mainly by enhancing the rate of programmed (or suicidal) cell death in the culture.
Journal ArticleDOI

High levels of the soluble form of CD30 molecule in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are expression of CD30+ T cell involvement in the inflamed joints.

TL;DR: Data from this study strongly support an involvement of CD30+ T cells in the immune processes of rheumatoid synovitis, and may suggest a relationship between Th2‐type cytokine‐secreting T cells and the pathological response in RA.
