Journal ArticleDOI
HLA-haploidentical transplantation with regulatory and conventional T-cell adoptive immunotherapy prevents acute leukemia relapse
Massimo F. Martelli,Mauro Di Ianni,Mauro Di Ianni,Loredana Ruggeri,Franca Falzetti,Alessandra Carotti,Adelmo Terenzi,Antonio Pierini,Maria Speranza Massei,Lucia Amico,Elena Urbani,Beatrice Del Papa,Tiziana Zei,Roberta Iacucci Ostini,Debora Cecchini,Rita Tognellini,Yair Reisner,Franco Aversa,Brunangelo Falini,Andrea Velardi +19 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated the immunosuppressive potential of Tregs can be used to suppress GVHD without loss of the benefits of graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) activity, and humanized murine models provided insights into the mechanisms underlying separation of GVL from GV HD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Haploidentical hematopoietic transplantation from KIR ligand–mismatched donors with activating KIRs reduces nonrelapse mortality
Antonella Mancusi,Loredana Ruggeri,Elena Urbani,Antonio Pierini,Maria Speranza Massei,Alessandra Carotti,Adelmo Terenzi,Franca Falzetti,Antonella Tosti,Fabiana Topini,Silvia Bozza,Luigina Romani,Rita Tognellini,Martin Stern,Franco Aversa,Massimo F. Martelli,Andrea Velardi +16 more
TL;DR: In vitro analyses showed that KIR2DS1 binding to its HLA-C2 ligand upregulated inflammatory cytokine production by alloreactive NK cells in response to infectious challenges showed that the role of donor activating KIRs in haploidentical hematopoietic transplants for acute leukemia was investigated.

TGF-beta is important in determining the in vivo patterns of susceptibility or resistance in mice infected with Candida albicans.
Roberta Spaccapelo,Luigina Romani,Laura Tonnetti,Elio Cenci,Antonella Mencacci,G. Del Sero,Rita Tognellini,Sg Reed,Paolo Puccetti,Francesco Bistoni +9 more
TL;DR: TGF-beta is established as a third cytokine, the presence of which may be required for optimal Th1 development leading to long-lived anticandidal resistance in mice infected with virulent C. albicans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of human breast cancer cell (MCF-7) growth in vitro by the somatostatin analog SMS 201-995: effects on cell cycle parameters and apoptotic cell death.
TL;DR: It would, therefore, seem that SMS 201-995 exerts its inhibitory effect on MCF-7 cell growth in vitro mainly by enhancing the rate of programmed (or suicidal) cell death in the culture.
Journal ArticleDOI
High levels of the soluble form of CD30 molecule in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are expression of CD30+ T cell involvement in the inflamed joints.
Roberto Gerli,C Muscat,Onelia Bistoni,Brunangelo Falini,C Tomassini,E. Agea,Rita Tognellini,P Biagini,Alberto Bertotto +8 more
TL;DR: Data from this study strongly support an involvement of CD30+ T cells in the immune processes of rheumatoid synovitis, and may suggest a relationship between Th2‐type cytokine‐secreting T cells and the pathological response in RA.
