TL;DR: U-BIOPRED is characterised by poor symptom control, increased comorbidity and airway inflammation, despite high levels of treatment, and is well suited to identify asthma phenotypes using the array of "omic" datasets that are at the core of this systems medicine approach.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Clustering based on clinicophysiologic parameters yielded 4 stable and reproducible clusters of asthmatic patients that associate with different pathobiological pathways.
Journal ArticleDOI
Increased Prevalence of Symptoms of Rhinitis but Not of Asthma between 1990 and 2008 in Swedish Adults: Comparisons of the ECRHS and GA2LEN Surveys
Anders Bjerg,Linda Ekerljung,Roelinde Middelveld,Sven-Erik Dahlén,Bertil Forsberg,Karl A. Franklin,Kjell Larsson,Jan Lötvall,Inga Sif Ólafsdóttir,Kjell Torén,Kjell Torén,Bo Lundbäck,Christer Janson +12 more
TL;DR: From 1990 to 2008 the prevalence of obstructive airway symptoms common in asthma did not increase in Swedish young adults, which supports the few available international findings suggesting the previous upward trend in asthma has recently reached a plateau.
Journal Article
Frequent exacerbators – A distinct phenotype of severe asthma
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated risk factors for frequent exacerbations (defined as either ≥2 or ≥3 events/year) and identified factors associated with a higher risk of exacerbations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of problematic severe asthma in children
K. C. Lødrup Carlsen,G. Hedlin,Andrew Bush,Göran Wennergren,F.M. De Benedictis,J. C. De Jongste,Eugenio Baraldi,C. Pedroletti,Angelo Barbato,K. Malmström,Petr Pohunek,Shona Pedersen,Gl Piacentini,Roelinde Middelveld,Kai-Håkon Carlsen +14 more
TL;DR: The lack of good data and the heterogeneity of problematic severe asthma still limit the ability to optimise the management on an individual basis in this small, but challenging group of patients.
