Journal ArticleDOI
The influence of the airway driving pressure on pulsed pressure variation as a predictor of fluid responsiveness
Laurent Muller,Guillaume Louart,Philippe-Jean Bousquet,Damien Candela,Lana Zoric,Jean-Emmanuel de La Coussaye,Samir Jaber,Jean-Yves Lefrant +7 more
TL;DR: In patients mechanically ventilated with low VT, PPV values <13% do not rule out fluid responsiveness, especially when (Pplat − PEEP) is ≤20 cmH2O, and using a polytomic logistic regression was the sole independent factor associated with a PPV value<13% in responders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Short-course antibiotic therapy for critically ill patients treated for postoperative intra-abdominal infection: the DURAPOP randomised clinical trial.
Philippe Montravers,Florence Tubach,Thomas Lescot,Benoit Veber,Marina Esposito-Farèse,Philippe Seguin,Catherine Paugam,Alain Lepape,Claude Meistelman,Joel Cousson,Antoine Tesniere,Gaëtan Plantefève,Gilles Blasco,Karim Asehnoune,Samir Jaber,Sigismond Lasocki,Hervé Dupont +16 more
TL;DR: Short-course antibiotic therapy in critically ill ICU patients with PIAI reduces antibiotic exposure, and Continuation of treatment until day 15 is not associated with any clinical benefit.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recovery after critical illness: putting the puzzle together-a consensus of 29.
Elie Azoulay,Jean Louis Vincent,Derek C. Angus,Yaseen M. Arabi,Laurent Brochard,Stephen J. Brett,Giuseppe Citerio,Deborah J. Cook,Jared Randall Curtis,Claudia C. dos Santos,E. Wesley Ely,Jesse B. Hall,Scott D. Halpern,Nicholas Hart,Ramona O. Hopkins,Ramona O. Hopkins,Theodore J. Iwashyna,Samir Jaber,Nicola Latronico,Sangeeta Mehta,Dale M. Needham,Judith E Nelson,Kathleen Puntillo,Michael Quintel,Kathy Rowan,Gordon D. Rubenfeld,Greet Van den Berghe,Johannes Van der Hoeven,Hannah Wunsch,Margaret S. Herridge +29 more
TL;DR: This review seeks to highlight how critical illness and critical care affect longer-term outcomes, to underline the contribution of ICU delirium to cognitive dysfunction several months after ICU discharge, to give new insights into ICU acquired weakness, and to emphasize the importance of value-based healthcare.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of the effects of heat and moisture exchangers and heated humidifiers on ventilation and gas exchange during non-invasive ventilation
Samir Jaber,Gerald Chanques,Stefan Matecki,Michèle Ramonatxo,Bruno Souche,Pierre-François Perrigault,Jean-Jacques Eledjam +6 more
TL;DR: During NIV the increased dead space of a HME can negatively affect ventilatory function and gas exchange and the effect of HME dead space may decrease efficiency of NIV in patients with ARF.
Journal ArticleDOI
Expert consensus statements for the management of COVID-19-related acute respiratory failure using a Delphi method.
Prashant Nasa,Elie Azoulay,Ashish Khanna,Ravi Jain,Sachin Gupta,Yash Javeri,Deven Juneja,Pradeep Rangappa,Krishnaswamy Sundararajan,Waleed Alhazzani,Massimo Antonelli,Yaseen M. Schultz,Manu Shankar-Hari,Manu Shankar-Hari,Suveer Singh,Massimiliano Sorbello,Ravindranath Tiruvoipati,Andrew A. Udy,Tobias Welte,Sheila Nainan Myatra +53 more
TL;DR: Using a Delphi process, an international panel of experts developed clinical practice statements on the respiratory management of COVID-19-related acute respiratory failure (C-ARF) in areas where evidence is absent or limited as discussed by the authors.
