Journal ArticleDOI
A novel coronavirus associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome.
Thomas G. Ksiazek,Dean D. Erdman,Cynthia S. Goldsmith,Zaki,Teresa C. T. Peret,Shannon L. Emery,Suxiang Tong,Urbani C,James A. Comer,Wilina Lim,Pierre E. Rollin,Scott F. Dowell,Ai Ee Ling,Charles D. Humphrey,Wun-Ju Shieh,Jeannette Guarner,Christopher D. Paddock,Paul A. Rota,Barry S. Fields,Joseph L. DeRisi,Jyh-Yuan Yang,Nancy J. Cox,James M. Hughes,James W. LeDuc,William J. Bellini,Larry J. Anderson +25 more
TL;DR: A novel coronavirus is associated with this outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome, and the evidence indicates that this virus has an etiologic role in SARS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antigenic and Genetic Characteristics of Swine-Origin 2009 A(H1N1) Influenza Viruses Circulating in Humans
Rebecca Garten,C. Todd Davis,Colin A. Russell,Colin A. Russell,Bo Shu,Stephen Lindstrom,Amanda Balish,Wendy Sessions,Xiyan Xu,Eugene Skepner,Varough M. Deyde,Margaret Okomo-Adhiambo,Larisa V. Bridges,Michael W. Shaw,Daniel B. Jernigan,Timothy M. Uyeki,Derek J. Smith,Derek J. Smith,Derek J. Smith,Alexander Klimov,Nancy J. Cox +62 more
TL;DR: The lack of similarity between the 2009 A(H1N1) virus and its nearest relatives indicates that its gene segments have been circulating undetected for an extended period as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI
Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction assay for SARS-associated coronavirus.
Shannon L. Emery,Dean D. Erdman,Michael D. Bowen,Bruce R. Newton,Jonas M. Winchell,Richard F. Meyer,Suxiang Tong,Byron T. Cook,Brian P. Holloway,Karen A. McCaustland,Paul A. Rota,Bettina Bankamp,Luis Lowe,Thomas G. Ksiazek,William J. Bellini,Larry J. Anderson +15 more
TL;DR: A real-time reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay was developed to rapidly detect the severe acute respiratory syndrome–associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and proved suitable to detect SARS- coV in clinical specimens.
Journal Article
Evaluation of rapid influenza diagnostic tests for detection of novel influenza A (H1N1) virus - United States, 2009.
Amanda Balish,Christine Warnes,K. Wu,Nathelia Barnes,Shannon L. Emery,LaShondra Berman,B. Shu,Steve Lindstrom,Xiyan Xu,Timothy M. Uyeki,Michael W. Shaw,Alexander Klimov,Julie Villanueva +12 more
TL;DR: Although the RIDTs were capable of detecting novel A (H1N1) virus from respiratory specimens containing high levels of virus, the overall sensitivity was low among all specimens tested and declined substantially as virus levels decreased and Ct values increased.
Journal ArticleDOI
Design and Performance of the CDC Real-Time Reverse Transcriptase PCR Swine Flu Panel for Detection of 2009 A (H1N1) Pandemic Influenza Virus
Bo Shu,Kai-Hui Wu,Shannon L. Emery,Julie Villanueva,Roy Johnson,Roy Johnson,Erica Guthrie,LaShondra Berman,Christine Warnes,Nathelia Barnes,Nathelia Barnes,Alexander Klimov,Stephen Lindstrom +12 more
TL;DR: The CDC rRT-PCR Swine Flu Panel served as an effective tool for timely and specific detection of 2009 A (H1N1) pdm influenza viruses and facilitated subsequent public health response implementation.
