Long-term cryoconservation and stability of vitamin C in serum samples of the European prospective investigation into cancer and nutrition.
Mazda Jenab,Sheila Bingham,Pietro Ferrari,Marlin D. Friesen,Wael K. Al-Delaimy,Robert Luben,Nicholas J. Wareham,Kay-Tee Khaw,Elio Riboli +8 more
TL;DR: The results of this study show that vitamin C can be measured with reasonable reliability in plasma samples frozen for long periods of time without addition of any stabilizing agents.
Journal ArticleDOI
No association between APOE and major depressive disorder in a community sample of 17,507 adults
Paul G. Surtees,Nicholas W.J. Wainwright,Richard Bowman,Robert Luben,Nicholas J. Wareham,Kay-Tee Khaw,Sheila Bingham +6 more
TL;DR: The association between APOE and MDD risk is more modest than has been previously reported and data from this large-scale, community-based, study are not supportive of an association between either MDD or associated measures of emotional state and APOE genotype.
Journal ArticleDOI
Physical activity and lung cancer among non-smokers: a pilot molecular epidemiological study within EPIC

Linseisen,Heiner Boeing,Antonia Trichopoulou,Domenico Palli,Vittorio Krogh,Rosario Tumino,Salvatore Panico,Hendrik B. Bueno-de-Mesquita,Petra H.M. Peeters,Petra H.M. Key,Emmanuelle Gormally,Rodolfo Saracci,Rudolf Kaaks,Elio Riboli,Paolo Vineis,Paolo Vineis +34 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the association between physical activity, potential intermediate biomarkers and lung cancer risk was investigated in a study of 230 cases and 648 controls nested within the European Prospective Investigation of Cancer and Nutrition found GSH levels were not associated with lung cancerrisk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective study of the association between grapefruit intake and risk of breast cancer in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC)
Elizabeth A Spencer,Timothy J. Key,Paul N. Appleby,Carla H. van Gils,Anja Olsen,Anne Tjønneland,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Marie-Christine Boutron-Ruault,Marina Touillaud,María José Sánchez,Sheila Bingham,Kay-Tee Khaw,Nadia Slimani,Rudolf Kaaks,Elio Riboli +14 more
TL;DR: Grapefruit intake was not related to the risk of breast cancer: compared with women who ate no grapefruit, women with the highest intake of ≥60 g/day had a HR of 0.93, and there was no association between grapefruit intake and estradiol or estrone among postmenopausal women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Commentary: Fat and breast cancer: time to re-evaluate both methods and results?
Sheila Bingham,Nicholas E. Day +1 more
TL;DR: It was concluded that there was moderate evidence to conclude that total fat in adult life ‘does not influence’ the risk of breast cancer independently of BMI.
