Journal ArticleDOI
Monoamine oxidase B inhibitor, selegiline, reduces 18F-THK5351 uptake in the human brain
Kok Pin Ng,Tharick A. Pascoal,Sulantha Mathotaarachchi,Joseph Therriault,Min Su Kang,Monica Shin,Marie-Christine Guiot,Qi Guo,Ryuichi Harada,Robert A. Comley,Gassan Massarweh,Jean-Paul Soucy,Nobuyuki Okamura,Serge Gauthier,Pedro Rosa-Neto +14 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that the interpretation of 18F-THK5351 PET images, with respect to tau, is confounded by the high MAO-B availability across the entire brain.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microglial activation and tau propagate jointly across Braak stages
Tharick A. Pascoal,Andrea Lessa Benedet,Nicholas J. Ashton,Nicholas J. Ashton,Nicholas J. Ashton,Min Su Kang,Min Su Kang,Joseph Therriault,Mira Chamoun,Melissa Savard,Firoza Z. Lussier,Cecile Tissot,Thomas K. Karikari,Julie Ottoy,Julie Ottoy,Sulantha Mathotaarachchi,Jenna Stevenson,Gassan Massarweh,Michael Schöll,Michael Schöll,Mony J. de Leon,Jean-Paul Soucy,Paul Edison,Kaj Blennow,Kaj Blennow,Henrik Zetterberg,Serge Gauthier,Pedro Rosa-Neto,Pedro Rosa-Neto +28 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the spatial propagation of microglial activation and tau accumulation colocalize in a Braak-like pattern in the living human brain, suggesting an interaction that determines disease progression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Non-invasive in vivo hyperspectral imaging of the retina for potential biomarker use in Alzheimer’s disease
Xavier Hadoux,Flora Hui,Jeremiah K.H. Lim,Colin L. Masters,Alice Pébay,Sophie Chevalier,Jason Ha,Jason Ha,Samantha M Loi,Samantha M Loi,Christopher Fowler,Christopher C. Rowe,Victor L. Villemagne,Edward N. Taylor,Christopher J. Nasreddine,Jean Daniel Arbour,Marc-André Rhéaume,Sylvain Beaulieu,Mohamed Dirani,Christine T. O. Nguyen,Bang V. Bui,Robert Williamson,Jonathan G Crowston,Peter van Wijngaarden +35 more
TL;DR: The authors demonstrate the potential to use in vivo retinal hyperspectral imaging as a surrogate for brain accumulation of Aβ.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of Apolipoprotein E ε4 With Medial Temporal Tau Independent of Amyloid-β.
Joseph Therriault,Joseph Therriault,Andrea Lessa Benedet,Andrea Lessa Benedet,Tharick A. Pascoal,Tharick A. Pascoal,Sulantha Mathotaarachchi,Mira Chamoun,Melissa Savard,Emilie Thomas,Min Su Kang,Min Su Kang,Firoza Z. Lussier,Firoza Z. Lussier,Cecile Tissot,Cecile Tissot,Marlee Parsons,Marlee Parsons,Muhammad Naveed Iqbal Qureshi,Paolo Vitali,Gassan Massarweh,Gassan Massarweh,Jean-Paul Soucy,Jean-Paul Soucy,Soham Rej,Paramita Saha-Chaudhuri,Serge Gauthier,Pedro Rosa-Neto +27 more
TL;DR: In both cohorts, APOEε4 was associated in increased tau-PET uptake in the entorhinal cortex and hippocampus independently of amyloid-β, sex, age, and clinical status after multiple comparisons correction, contributing to an evolving framework in which APoeε4 has deleterious consequences in Alzheimer disease beyond its link with amyloids-β.
Journal ArticleDOI
18F-MK-6240 PET for early and late detection of neurofibrillary tangles.
Tharick A. Pascoal,Joseph Therriault,Andrea Lessa Benedet,Melissa Savard,Firoza Z. Lussier,Mira Chamoun,Cecile Tissot,Muhammad Naveed Iqbal Qureshi,Min Su Kang,Sulantha Mathotaarachchi,Jenna Stevenson,Robert Hopewell,Gassan Massarweh,Jean-Paul Soucy,Serge Gauthier,Pedro Rosa-Neto +15 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the hierarchical six-stage Braak model using 18F-MK-6240 imaging provides an index of early and late tau accumulation as well as disease stage in preclinical and symptomatic individuals.
