Diagnostic tool for structural health monitoring: effect of material nonlinearity and vibro-impact process
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explored vibration-based techniques together with their use as diagnostic tools for structural health monitoring, and found that a change in the natural frequency of the cracked bar due to crack-tip plasticity and vibro-impact behavior linked to interaction of crack faces, obtained from experiments, led to generation of higher harmonics; this can be used as a diagnostic tool for structural Health monitoring.
Journal ArticleDOI
Longitudinal-torsional complex-mode ultrasonic actuator for vibration-assisted drilling of CFRP
TL;DR: In this article , an innovative longitudinal-torsional complex-mode ultrasonic vibration-assisted actuator with single excitation and an elliptical locus is presented employing a piezoelectric transducer and a stepped horn with spiral grooves.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-temperature behaviour and interfacial damage of CGI: 3D numerical modelling
TL;DR: In this paper , the effects of morphology and orientation of graphite inclusions on a response of an entire unit cell to thermal loading are investigated, and the influence of periodic and fully-fixed boundary conditions on the damage behaviour of compacted graphite iron is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamic mode-I delamination in composite DCB under impact loads with attunable dynamic effect
TL;DR: In this article , a dynamic mode-I energy release rate of a double cantilever beam (DCB) under impact from a striker is derived for the first time for isotropic and orthotropic composite materials, accounting for DCB properties, a striker mass and an initial impact velocity.
Book ChapterDOI
Modelling crack-tip behaviour in a directionally solidified nickel alloy under fatigue-oxidation conditions
TL;DR: In this paper, a finite element approach to study crack-tip behavior for a directionally solidified nickel-based superalloy subjected to high-temperature fatigue loading in vacuum and air was presented.
