The Alarmin Interleukin-33 Drives Protective Antiviral CD8+ T Cell Responses
Weldy V. Bonilla,Anja Fröhlich,Anja Fröhlich,Karin A. Senn,Sandra M. Kallert,Marylise Fernandez,Susan R. Johnson,Mario Kreutzfeldt,Mario Kreutzfeldt,Ahmed N. Hegazy,Ahmed N. Hegazy,Christina Schrick,Christina Schrick,Padraic G. Fallon,Roman Klemenz,Susumu Nakae,Heiko Adler,Doron Merkler,Doron Merkler,Doron Merkler,Max Löhning,Max Löhning,Daniel D. Pinschewer +22 more
TL;DR: It is shown that interleukin-33 (IL-33), an alarmin released from necrotic cells, is necessary for potent CD8+ T cell responses to replicating, prototypic RNA and DNA viruses in mice and showed that endogenous material, independently of pathogen-derived molecules, are also required for antiviral immunity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Memory CD8(+) T Cells Require Increased Concentrations of Acetate Induced by Stress for Optimal Function.
Maria L. Balmer,Eric H. Ma,Glenn R. Bantug,Jasmin Grählert,Simona P. Pfister,Timo Glatter,Annaïse Jauch,Sarah Dimeloe,Emma Slack,Philippe Dehio,Magdalena A. Krzyzaniak,Carolyn G. King,Anne-Valérie Burgener,Marco Fischer,Leyla Develioglu,Réka Belle,Mike Recher,Weldy V. Bonilla,Andrew J. Macpherson,Siegfried Hapfelmeier,Russell G. Jones,Christoph Hess +21 more
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that increased systemic acetate concentrations are functionally integrated by CD8(+) T cells and translate into increased glycolytic and functional capacity, and the immune system thus directly relates systemic metabolism with immune alertness.
Journal ArticleDOI
T-bet– and STAT4–dependent IL-33 receptor expression directly promotes antiviral Th1 cell responses
Claudia Baumann,Weldy V. Bonilla,Anja Fröhlich,Caroline Helmstetter,Michael Peine,Ahmed N. Hegazy,Daniel D. Pinschewer,Max Löhning +7 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that activated Th1 effector cells transiently express the IL-33 receptor ST2 upon differentiation in vitro and in vivo during viral infection, redefining the role of ST2 in Th cell activation, with implications for the design of adjuvants and therapies targeting the IL–ST2 pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamics and genomic landscape of CD8 + T cells undergoing hepatic priming
Alexandre P. Benechet,Giorgia De Simone,Pietro Di Lucia,Francesco Cilenti,Giulia Barbiera,Nina Le Bert,Valeria Fumagalli,Eleonora Lusito,Federica Moalli,Valentina Bianchessi,Francesco Andreata,Paola Zordan,Elisa Bono,Leonardo Giustini,Weldy V. Bonilla,Camille Blériot,Kamini Kunasegaran,Gloria González-Aseguinolaza,Daniel D. Pinschewer,Patrick T F Kennedy,Luigi Naldini,Mirela Kuka,Florent Ginhoux,Florent Ginhoux,Alessio Cantore,Antonio Bertoletti,Antonio Bertoletti,Renato Ostuni,Luca G. Guidotti,Matteo Iannacone +29 more
TL;DR: It is shown that priming by Kupffer cells, which is not natural targets of hepatitis B, leads to differentiation of CD8+ T cells into effector cells that form dense, extravascular clusters of immotile cells scattered throughout the liver.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Promyelocytic Leukemia Protein on Virus-Host Balance
Weldy V. Bonilla,Daniel D. Pinschewer,Paul Klenerman,Valentin Rousson,Mirella Gaboli,Pier Paolo Pandolfi,Rolf M. Zinkernagel,Maria S. Salvato,Hans Hengartner +8 more
TL;DR: PML is a contributor to innate immunity, defining host susceptibility to viral infections and to immunopathology, and in vivo observations corroborated results showing more virus production in PML−/− fibroblasts.
