Natural killer cell activation enhances immune pathology and promotes chronic infection by limiting CD8+ T-cell immunity
Philipp A. Lang,Karl S. Lang,Haifeng C. Xu,Melanie Grusdat,Ian A. Parish,Mike Recher,Alisha R. Elford,Salim Dhanji,Namir Shaabani,Charles W. Tran,Dilan Dissanayake,Ramtin Rahbar,Magar Ghazarian,Anne Brüstle,Jason P. Fine,Peter Chen,Casey T. Weaver,Christoph S.N. Klose,Andreas Diefenbach,Dieter Häussinger,James R. Carlyle,Susan M. Kaech,Tak W. Mak,Pamela S. Ohashi +23 more
TL;DR: It is shown that NKG2D triggered regulatory NK cell functions, which were mediated by perforin, and limited T-cell responses, which led to rapid virus control and prevented chronic infection in lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus clone 13- and reduced viral load in DOCILE- infected animals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phenotype, penetrance, and treatment of 133 cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen 4–insufficient subjects
Charlotte Schwab,Annemarie Gabrysch,Peter Olbrich,Virginia Patiño,Klaus Warnatz,Daniel Wolff,Akihiro Hoshino,Masao Kobayashi,Kohsuke Imai,Masatoshi Takagi,Ingunn Dybedal,Jamanda A. Haddock,David M. Sansom,José Manuel Lucena,Maximilian Seidl,Annette Schmitt-Graeff,Veronika Reiser,Florian Emmerich,Natalie Frede,Alla Bulashevska,Ulrich Salzer,Desirée Schubert,Seiichi Hayakawa,Satoshi Okada,Maria Kanariou,Zeynep Yesim Kucuk,Hugo Chapdelaine,Lenka Petruzelkova,Zdenek Sumnik,Anna Sediva,Mary Slatter,Peter D. TL;DR: The penetrance, clinical features, laboratory values, and outcomes of treatment options were assessed in a worldwide cohort of CTLA4 mutation carriers, finding affected mutation carriers with CTLA‐4 insufficiency can present in any medical specialty.
Journal ArticleDOI
Memory CD8(+) T Cells Require Increased Concentrations of Acetate Induced by Stress for Optimal Function.
Maria L. Balmer,Eric H. Ma,Glenn R. Bantug,Jasmin Grählert,Simona P. Pfister,Timo Glatter,Annaïse Jauch,Sarah Dimeloe,Emma Slack,Philippe Dehio,Magdalena A. Krzyzaniak,Carolyn G. King,Anne-Valérie Burgener,Marco Fischer,Leyla Develioglu,Réka Belle,Mike Recher,Weldy V. Bonilla,Andrew J. Macpherson,Siegfried Hapfelmeier,Russell G. Jones,Christoph Hess +21 more
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that increased systemic acetate concentrations are functionally integrated by CD8(+) T cells and translate into increased glycolytic and functional capacity, and the immune system thus directly relates systemic metabolism with immune alertness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of Checkpoint Inhibitor-Induced Toxic Effects With Shared Cancer and Tissue Antigens in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer.
Fiamma Berner,David Bomze,Stefan Diem,Omar Ali,Mirjam Fässler,Sandra S. Ring,Sandra S. Ring,Rebekka Niederer,Christoph Jakob Ackermann,Petra Baumgaertner,Natalia Pikor,Cristina Del Carmen Gil Cruz,Willem van de Veen,Mübeccel Akdis,Sergey Nikolaev,Heinz Läubli,Alfred Zippelius,Fabienne Hartmann,Hung-Wei Cheng,Gideon Hönger,Mike Recher,Jonathan H. Goldman,Antonio Cozzio,Martin Früh,Martin Früh,Jacques Neefjes,Christoph Driessen,Burkhard Ludewig,Ahmed N. Hegazy,Wolfram Jochum,Daniel E. Speiser,Lukas Flatz +31 more
TL;DR: A potential mechanism of checkpoint inhibitor-mediated autoimmune toxic effects is highlighted and the association between toxic effects and response to therapy is described; such an understanding will help in controlling adverse effects, deciphering new cancer antigens, and further improving immunotherapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enforced viral replication activates adaptive immunity and is essential for the control of a cytopathic virus.
Nadine Honke,Namir Shaabani,Giuseppe Cadeddu,Ursula R. Sorg,Dong-Er Zhang,Mirko Trilling,Karin Klingel,Martina Sauter,Reinhard Kandolf,Nicole Gailus,Nico van Rooijen,Christoph Burkart,Stephan Baldus,Melanie Grusdat,Max Löhning,Hartmut Hengel,Klaus Pfeffer,Masato Tanaka,Dieter Häussinger,Mike Recher,Philipp A. Lang,Philipp A. Lang,Karl S. Lang +22 more
TL;DR: It is found that enforced viral replication in marginal zone macrophages was an immunological mechanism that ensured the production of sufficient antigen for effective activation of the adaptive immune response.
