Entropy production during the drying process of milk droplets in an industrial spray dryer
Yan Jin,Xiao Dong Chen +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the second law of thermodynamics was used to evaluate the energy efficiency of an industrial scale spray dryer with CFD modeling results of the transient multi-phase flow in the spray dryers and showed that large particles produce more entropy per unit mass on dry basis.
Journal ArticleDOI
A generalized correlation of solute inclusion in ice formed from aqueous solutions and food liquids on sub-cooled surface
Ping Chen,Xiao Dong Chen +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of ice growth rate, solution velocity and bulk concentration of solute on the solute inclusion in the ice layer have been investigated using a controlled flow surface crystallizer (CFSC).
Journal ArticleDOI
Imidazolium‐Functionalized SiO2 Nanoparticle Doped Proton Conducting Membranes for Anhydrous Proton Exchange Membrane Applications
TL;DR: In this paper, a mixture of polymerizable oil (styrene, acrylonitrile, and divinylbenzene), PILs, and 1-methyl-3-[(triethoxysilyl)propyl] imidazolium chloride surface functionalized silica nanoparticles were synthesized via in situ cross-linking of a mixture containing polymerizable oils.
Journal ArticleDOI
Freezing of aqueous solution in a simple apparatus designed for measuring freezing point
Xiao Dong Chen,Ping Chen +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a simple device for highly concentrated aqueous solutions is described, and the characteristics of the freezing process of a small amount liquid (a few micro-liters) in this device, i.e. the effects of sample size, supercooling and location of measuring point, have been investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Formation of novel mesoporous TiC microspheres through a sol-gel and carbothermal reduction process
Jie Zhong,Jie Zhong,Shuquan Liang,Juan Zhao,Winston Duo Wu,Wenjie Liu,Huanting Wang,Xiao Dong Chen,Yi-Bing Cheng +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, mesoporous TiC microspheres with uniform size are synthesized via a sol-gel combined carbothermal reduction process, which can be maintained after a two-step heat treatment.
