TL;DR: In this article, a quasielastic light scattering study of polystyrene latex particles embedded inside a random system (in this case, polyacrylamide solutions and gels) was carried out.
Abstract: A quasielastic-light-scattering study of polystyrene latex particles embedded inside a random system (in this case, polyacrylamide solutions and gels) was carried out. By measuring the correlation functions of the scattered-light intensity from suspended probe particles, structures of pores in gels were characterized. In the vicinity of the gelation threshold, the movement of particles in the gel may be quite different from normal diffusion, because of the interference from polymer networks. In this report the relation between the diffusion process and the correlation length of the system is discussed. The characteristic exponent of the topological structure of pores in gels at the threshold is also estimated.

TL;DR: In this article, the laser irradiation of gas flame sprayed NiCrAl, FeNiCrAl and NiCr alloys was used to produce coatings highly resistant to hot corrosion.
Abstract: Laser glazing of gas flame sprayed NiCrAl, FeNiCrAl, and NiCr alloys was used to produce coatings highly resistant to hot corrosion. Laser irradiation made it possible to glaze the thin surface layers of the sprayed porous coatings. The laser-modified layer of the coating possessed a new surface composition and morphology. Hot corrosion tests, in the presence of a mixed salt of 15 wt% Na2SO4/V2O5 at 900°C, showed that the modified coating offered excellent corrosion resistance compared to the as-sprayed coating.

Abstract: There is a tendency to blame budget cuts for the decline of academic vitality. But that is a scapegoat. The fact that intellectual inbreeding is a more basic cause is not considered. Of course each academic has a freedom of theoretical choice, but that should not infringe upon the right for employment of those who told other theories, methodologies and underlying epistemologies, or the right for their works to be published in mainstream journals.

TL;DR: A systematic method for hierarchical auxiliary line generation that keeps track of information on the depth in recursive line generation and of primitive operators to insure proper primitive operations is proposed.
Abstract: The constructive solid geometry (CSG) method is applied to reconstruction of 3-D shapes from three-view engineering drawings. It is found that auxiliary lines must be added to most of the original drawings in order to generate a proper set of primitives. For this purpose, a systematic method for hierarchical auxiliary line generation is proposed. It keeps track of information on the depth in recursive line generation and of primitive operators to insure proper primitive operations. The proposed method was successfully tested on several typical engineering drawings. >

TL;DR: The diamond deposition on molybdenum and niobium substrates with Ar-CO [0.1 volume percent (v/o)]-H 2 plasma jets was carried out at 26 kPa by varying hydrogen concentration and exposure time as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The diamond deposition on molybdenum and niobium substrates with Ar-CO [0.1 volume percent (v/o)]-H 2 plasma jets was carried out at 26 kPa by varying hydrogen concentration and exposure time. At 2 and 3 v/o hydrogen added to the plasma let (H 2 /CO=20-30), the diamond deposition was obtained. When the hydrogen concentration was reached to 5 v/o, the substrate was only carburized. The diamond deposition process is considered from both the kinetic study and characterizations of the deposits. Diamond was deposited on the metal carbides which were formed prior to the deposition of diamond

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that most subjects, who slept for proper lengths of time the night before but who have not been specially trained for staying awake, begin to fall into somnolence in 20 to 30 minutes after starting work.
Abstract: Many subjects tend to fall into somnolence as they continue monotonous work. This report covers some noteworthy fact found in the lengths of time for the subjects to begin to doze. Our earlier research has made it clear that the occurance of grouped-α-wave can be used as an indication of somnolence in which the level of brain activities drops low. Needless to say, such time varies from one person to another. However, our experiment shows that most subjects, who slept for proper lengths of time the night before but who have not been specially trained for staying awake, begin to fall into somnolence in 20 to 30 minutes after starting work.

TL;DR: New insights are provided into the role of the clathrin molecule and the regulatory mechanism of neurite outgrowth, as well as the effect of ZLLLal on the rate of polymerization ofClathrin triskelion to the coat structure.
Abstract: Our previous reports showed that benzyloxycarbonyl (Z)-Leu-Leu-Leu-al (ZLLLal) induces neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells, and that 33-, 35-, and 180-kDa proteins from PC12 cells elute specifically from a Leu-Leu-Leu-al (LLLal)-coupled affinity column. Several lines of evidence suggest that the 33-, 35-, and 180-kDa proteins are components of clathrin, well-known for its role in endocytosis. Separation of clathrin into its heavy and light chains showed that the clathrin heavy chains have the ability to bind to a LLLal affinity column directly. Furthermore, ZLLLal enhances the rate of polymerization of clathrin triskelion to the coat structure. ZLLL-COOH does not cause neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells, and has no effect on the rate of clathrin polymerization. On immunocytochemical analysis of PC12 cells with an anti-clathrin heavy chain antibody, enhanced staining of the clathrin heavy chain was observed concomitantly with neurite outgrowth initiated by ZLLLal, but not by NGF. This study provides new insights into both the role of the clathrin molecule and the regulatory mechanism of neurite outgrowth.

TL;DR: The whole structure of the fuzzy expert system on personnel development, including the components, their relations, the number of rules of the system, and two situations where the FESPD could be utilized as a negotiation support system are revealed from both an individual's and a firm's viewpoints.
Abstract: The paper explains the fuzzy expert system on personnel development (FESPD) which the authors have designed and developed. The attempt is pioneering, focusing on qualitative analysis of how the system can be utilized as a negotiation support system, what benefits may accrue, and what future potential it may possess. The three aims of the FESPD are: (a) to best analyze individual needs in light of organizational objectives; (b) to facilitate personnel management in consultations with each employee (employer's side); and (c) to provide the individual with the most desirable solution for the purpose of full discussion and negotiation (individual's side). Several significant features of the FESPD are illustrated. Among these are: (a) the tetra-structure that encompasses transitions in the nature of work, working place, working position, and combinations thereof; (b) the fuzziness expressed by modal logic, as well as dual modal logic, and (c) the development of semantic nets which can better analyze the situations of relocation, promotion, and demotion. The whole structure is revealed, including the components, their relations, the number of rules of the system, and two situations where the FESPD could be utilized as a negotiation support system are introduced from both an individual's and a firm's viewpoints. Future directions of the FESPD to improve the negotiation support system are suggested on the basis of factors such as performance evaluation, training, and education, as well as relocation before and after retirement. >

TL;DR: In this article, the corrosion resistance of the coating is found to be influenced by the deposition conditions such as the substrate temperature and N2/TiCl4 mixing ratio to a great extent.
Abstract: Anti-corrosion resistance of the coatings deposited by the Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) is considered to be influenced by the characteristics of the coatings, such as chemical composition, impurity, micro-pores, crystallographic orientation and so on. Study aims to examine the characteristics and corrosion resistance of titanium nitride coating deposited by Radio-Frequency (RF)-plasma CVD of TiCl4+N2+H2 reactants. The corrosion resistance of the coating is found to be influenced by the deposition conditions such as the substrate temperature and N2/TiCl4 mixing ratio to a great extent. A highly crystalline stoichiometric TiN coating with excellent anti-corrosion resistance in acidified solution could be synthesized at the substrate temperature higher than 923 K and N2/TiCl4 mixing ration of 3. This coating contains very few chlorine in it and low prefered crystallographic orientation.
