TL;DR: In this article, a conceptual framework of cryogenic-assisted machining processes is presented, and the main applications of the processes are discussed, and economic aspects have been delineated in the penultimate section.
Abstract: Machining processes aided by cryogenics, and therefore known as cryogenic-assisted machining, are one of the emerging sustainable means of machining superior quality products. The major objective of this work is to brief the readers with the advancements and developments taking place during last few decades in this emerging area of machining technology. The work incepts with an introduction section encompassing delineation of the conceptual framework of cryogenic-assisted machining processes, i.e., the definition and scope of the processes. Subsequently, the readers are illuminated with the thermal aspects of the cryogenic-assisted machining processes. Main applications of the cryogenic-assisted machining processes are discussed next. Consequently, economic aspects have been delineated in the penultimate section of the present work. The sustainability issues associated with the cryogenic-assisted machining have also been discussed in the present work. The work finally terminates with brief concluding remarks encompassing future perspectives.

TL;DR: The results of intrinsic viscosity indicate that the optimized sample GF4 has longer chain length than in comparison to the native mucilage and thus exhibits more swelling tendencies and thus can be used as very good controlled release matrix system.
Abstract: Microwave assisted synthesis of graft copolymer of polymeric blend of Fenugreek seed mucilage (FSM)-Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with acrylamide (AM) was done by free radical polymerization using ammonium per sulfate (APS) as initiator. Varying amount of AM and APS was used to optimize the best grade based on highest percentage grafting efficiency and investigated with intrinsic viscosity measurement, Fourier Transformation infrared spectroscopy (FTIR),13C NMR spectra, X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, Thermogravimetric analysis, Scanning electron microscopy. The results of intrinsic viscosity indicate that the optimized sample GF4 has longer chain length than in comparison to the native mucilage and thus exhibits more swelling tendencies and thus can be used as very good controlled release matrix system. The thermal analysis and X-ray indicates that GF4 is more stable and possess more amorphous properties than the native FSM. The NMR and FT-IR studies reveal that in GF4 there is prominent presence of amide and the hydroxyl groups indicating that grafting mechanism has efficiently taken place. Histological studies & SEM image for optimized grade implanted on animals revealed sufficient tissue growth and exhibited biodegradability proving the material to be biocompatible and suitable to be used as tissue engineered scaffolds. The controlled release behavior of the optimized polymeric system GF4 was evidenced by 95% release of loaded drug Enalapril maleate for 16 h.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed colon targeted drug delivery systems for ibuprofen using grafted katira gum as a carrier, which was synthesized by grafting acrylamide onto kataira gum in presence of varying concentration of ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) as initiator.
Abstract: The aim of the this study is to develop colon targeted drug delivery systems for Ibuprofen using grafted katira gum as a carrier. Polyacrylamide-grafted katira gum was synthesized by grafting acrylamide onto katira gum in presence of varying concentration of ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) as initiator. Elemental analysis, FTIR, TGA, DTA, DSC, and SEM were used to characterize the grafting of acrylamide onto katira gum. Matrix tablets containing various proportions of grafted katira gum were prepared by wet granulation method. All the formulations were evaluated for hardness, drug content, swelling index, and in vitro release studies in simulated gastric fluid, small intestinal fluid, and simulated colonic fluid with and without enzymes. Ibuprofen was used for controlled release study. The drug release mechanism was studied by fitting into Peppas model and was found to be supercase-II transport. Matrix tablets containing 0.3 g of CAN/gm of acrylamide showed optimum value and retained its physical integrity in simulated gastric, small intestinal and colonic fluid, where as other composition disintegrated within 2 h of dissolution testing in pH 1.2 buffer, simulated gastric fluid. The results of this study indicates that Ibuprofen matrix tablet containing 60 wt % composition of the above grafted katira gum would be potential formulations in delivering the drug to the colon and the more susceptible for enzymatic degradation. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. TL;DR: A simple and reproducible HPTLC method for the determination of gymnemagenin in Gymnema sylvestre has been developed and Linearity of determination of 1 was observed in the range 4-10 microg.
Abstract: A simple and reproducible HPTLC method for the determination of gymnemagenin (1) in Gymnema sylvestre has been developed. Components were separated on pre-coated silica gel 60 F254 plates with chloroform:methanol (9:1) and scanned using a densitometric scanner in the UV reflectance mode at 290 nm. Linearity of determination of 1 was observed in the range 4-10 microg. The average percentage recovery of 1 from an extract was 99.09 +/- 0.29, and the content of 1 in leaves of the title plant was 1.61% (dry weight).
