TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify the relevant variables needed in this market to provide a better understanding of the adoption process and to establish an information base for future industrial market research in this area.
Abstract: Innumerable authors have indicated that new product failure rates have been alarmingly high [3, 10, 11]. With new product development becoming vital to a firm's maintenance or enhancement of its market position, it is increasingly necessary to seek new ways to minimize new product failure. Confrontation of this problem involves developing a more comprehensive understanding of why and how new products are adopted by consumers so that marketing strategy may be more effectively designed and implemented. Research studies attempting to understand the process of new product adoption have been substantial in areas such as rural sociology and the marketing of consumer goods [8, 10, 15, 17]. However, industrial products have received only limited attention. Recent investigations [4, 14, 16, 20] indicate that industrial product buyers may be affected by many of the same variables as the buyers of consumer goods. In these exploratory studies, variables such as perceived risk, self-confidence, seller image, and prior experience were proffered as important factors in the industrial adoption process. Other evidence reported by economists [2, 5, 12] indicates that variables such as the size of the firm and growth rate were relevant to industrial product adoption. To thoroughly understand why and how new industrial products are adopted, it is necessary to include firm variables, such as growth rate and size of firm, as well as individual behavioral variables. Apparently, industrial product research has been limited because cooperation from firms involved in the adoption process of an industrial product is often difficult to obtain, and individual behavioral variables pertinent to the industrial adoption process are frequently difficult to identify and measure. The objective of this exploratory research is to identify the relevant variables needed in this market to provide a better understanding of the adoption process and to establish an information base for future industrial market research in this area.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the behavior of persons involved in pornographic bookstores in the Times Square area of New York and found that they were hiding, shielding, or concealing sexual goods or services.
Abstract: THERE EXISTS IN THE TIMES SQUARE AREA of New York a distinct sexual community or subculture composed of those persons who provide sexual goods or services and their &dquo;clientele.&dquo; Such persons or organizations of persons include pornographic bookstores, pornographic movie theatres, peepshow establishments, burlesque houses, topless bars, live sex show productions, homosexuals, hustlers, and prostitutes. The research reported in this paper documents the &dquo;hiding, shielding, or concealing&dquo; behavior of persons involved in pornographic bookstores in the area.’ Very importantly, Times Square epitomizes the anonymous inner city. As such, it is a good testing ground for a number of assumptions, found in the urban literature, about urban interpersonal relations or more

Abstract: The band strength SUv′ Lv′ is an average with respect to vibrational wavefunctions ϕv′, and ϕv″, of the electronic transition moment Re (r) where and In Eq. (2) we see that the electronic transition moment is an average with respect to electronic wavefunctions of (ϕu and ϕL) the electronic dipole moment. If Re (r) is independent of r, Eq. (1) becomes where is called the Franck-Condon factor and is the square of the overlap integral of vibrational wavefunctions. The Franck-Condon factor controls the intensity distribution from band to band across a system.

TL;DR: The auroral oval concept may not be a good one to use to order diverse auroral data on a 24-hour basis as discussed by the authors, and the precipitation patterns for specific energy classes of protons and electrons should form the basis for the interpretation of high-latitude geophysical measurements.
Abstract: The auroral oval represents a region of auroral occurrence where particular spectral features have sufficient integrated intensity to exceed all-sky camera thresholds. It has been argued that this is not a good representation of the characteristics of particle precipitation or of energy deposition. Consequently, the auroral oval concept may not be a good one to use to order diverse auroral data on a 24-hour basis. Rather, the precipitation patterns for specific energy classes of protons and electrons should form the basis for the interpretation of high-latitude geophysical measurements.

TL;DR: In the successive waves of No Popery which ebbed and flowed until the middle of the nineteenth century in British public life, the role played by the oldfashioned identification of the pope of the Roman Catholic Church with Antichrist is not easily discernible.
Abstract: In the successive waves of “No Popery” which ebbed and flowed until the middle of the nineteenth century in British public life, the role played by the oldfashioned identification of the pope of the Roman Catholic Church with Antichrist is not easily discernible. Yet its presence is undeniable, though rarely on the surface or on the lips of those who, in the ordinary sense, “made history.” A study of the background and setting of John Henry Newman's thought on the papacy and the Antichrist has led me to uncover a neglected field of popular and cultured Antichrist thinking which helps to account for the persistence of “No Popery” sentiment in Christian history after its demise had been prematurely announced by more than one reasonable and enlightened politician.

TL;DR: In this article, an empirical parametrization of particle production data in hadron collisions is presented, whereby the limited trasverse-momentum distribution of emitted particles (centered around 0.3 GeV/c) in terms of the uncertainty relation, ΔxTΔpt≥ħ/2.
Abstract: We present an empirical parametrization of particle production data in hadron collisions whereby we account for the limited trasverse-momentum distribution of emitted particles (centered around 0.3 GeV/c) in terms of the uncertainty relation, ΔxTΔpt≥ħ/2. By making a precise, consistent definition of the conjugate spatial co-ordinate, we are able (contrary to an earlier suggestion) to account for the dependence of the center in thepTdistribution of incident momentum and type of projectile in close agreement with experiment.

TL;DR: In this paper, it was argued that Plato manipulated the discussion in Republic I to move Thrasymachus from a political position he may in fact have held to the un-Thrasymachean moral position he himself wanted to consider in the rest of Republic.
Abstract: In an earlier article,' I argued that Plato had manipulated the discussion in Republic I to move Thrasymachus from a political position he may in fact have held2 to the un-Thrasymachean moral position he himself wanted to consider in the rest of Republic.3 The move is made in 343 c 3 by linguistic bridging; i.e., by juxtaposing (1) "advantage of the stronger" and (3) "another's good" as if they were synonymous,4 though (1)as interpreted by (2) "obedience to the ruler's law" is in fact quite incompatible with (3); and it is only with (3) that the moral discussion can be opened. The reason is that it alone can apply to everyone, ruler as well as subject, and in it alone "justice" means something like "acceptance of equality" rather than simply "obedience to (any) law", which is called "justice" -by the ruler. In the light of this apparently cavalier attitude by Plato toward historical accuracy in using for his own purposes the doctrine of the Sophist, Thrasymachus, it seems worthwhile to ask whether he is similarly cavalier in using the doctrines of other historical personages; and if he is, whether he employs a similar method of bridging. Specifically, does he do this with, e.g., Protagoras in Theaetetus?

TL;DR: In this article, a simple extension of Parker's original model to include a dependence on the polar angle, θ, is shown to be invalid for radial flow and radial magnetic field and demonstrates how ad hoc symmetry conditions imposed to simplify a nonlinear problem can be incompatible with the basic hydromagnetic equations.
Abstract: In Parker's original model, the solar wind is represented as a spherically symmetric hydrodynamic flow. The velocity is radially directed and decoupled from the magnetic field. The simple extension of this model to include a dependence on the polar angle, θ, is shown to be invalid for radial flow and radial magnetic field. This work demonstrates how ad hoc symmetry conditions imposed to simplify a non-linear problem can be incompatible with the basic hydromagnetic equations.

TL;DR: Assays using quantitative complement fixation at final antibody titers suggest that molecular differences exist between NCE, ME and CEA.
Abstract: Precipitating rabbit antiserum reacting with the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) formed a band of identity with normal colon extract (NCE), tumor extract (TE) and meconium extract (ME) in Ouchterlony gel. Absorption with normal colon only reduced activity with NCE in the precipitation assay. Assays using quantitative complement fixation at final antibody titers suggest that molecular differences exist between NCE, ME and CEA. Their molecular relationships are currently being investigated in delayed hypersensitivity systems and by physico-chemical analyses.

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the definition of the velocity of a test particle in a Schwarzachild field, as measured by a distant observer, is complete, and that this definition reflects the fact that round-trip times-of-flight of fast test particles will be longer under general relativity than under Minkowskian or Newtonian theory.
Abstract: The definition we previously introduced to describe the velocity of a test particle in a Schwarzachild field, as measured by a distant observer, is shown to be complete. As we desired, this definition reflects the fact that round-trip times-of -flight of fast test particles will be longer when governed by general relativity than when governed by a Minkowskian or Newtonian theory. In this sense, particles obeying general relativity appear to slow down. Thc altemate definition of particle velocity proposed by Baierlein does not have this property and is shown to be more appropriate for a local observer than for a distant observer. (auth)

TL;DR: In this article, the authors measured initial and final thermoelectric powers of the thermocell (T)Ag−AgCl/Solution/AgCl−Ag(T+ΔT) at a mean temperature of 25°C and discussed ion-solvent interaction and properties of H2O and D2O.
Abstract: Heats of transport of 0.01 m HCl, Me4NCl, and Et4NCl in H2O and 0.01 m KCl, NaCl, and CsCl in D2O were determined from the measurement of initial (homogeneous) and final (Soret steady state) thermoelectric powers of the thermocell (T)Ag−AgCl/Solution/AgCl−Ag(T+ΔT) at a mean temperature of 25°C. The results are discussed in terms of ion-solvent interaction and properties of H2O and D2O.
