TL;DR: TGL and AST could be potentially used as indicators of anaesthetic stress for juvenile Siberian sturgeon, and clove oil was a promising alternative to MS-222.
Abstract: Summary The effects of MS-222 and clove oil on blood biochemical parameters of juvenile Siberian sturgeon (Acipenser baerii) were studied. MS-222 caused higher glucose (GLU) concentrations in anaesthetic test groups than for the control group. Triglyceride (TGL) concentrations of fish in the 140 and 160 mg L−1 groups were also significantly higher than those of other groups. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) activity in the 140 mg L−1 group was significantly higher than the level in 80, 100 and 120 mg L−1 groups. Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity in the 140 mg L−1 group was significantly higher than those in the 100 and 120 mg L−1 groups. Levels of total protein (TP), cholesterol (CHOL) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in anaesthetic test groups were not significantly influenced by MS-222. Clove oil did not have significant effects on levels of GLU, TP, CHOL, ALT and ALP. TGL concentration of fish exposed to 180 mg L−1 clove oil was significantly higher than those of the rest anaesthetic groups. AST activities of fish exposed to 120, 150 and 180 mg L−1 were significantly higher than those of 60 and 90 mg L−1. Overall, TGL and AST could be potentially used as indicators of anaesthetic stress for juvenile Siberian sturgeon. Based on blood biochemical parameters, the appropriate anaesthetic concentrations of MS-222 and clove oil were 80–120 mg L−1 and 60–90 mg L−1, respectively. Clove oil was a promising alternative to MS-222.

TL;DR: Growth hormone (GH) is a polypeptide which is an important regulator of development and somatic growth in teleosts, and may be associated with the mechanisms which drive sexual growth dimorphism in the Half-smooth tongue sole (Cynoglossus semilaevis).

TL;DR: The study conclusively observed that the dominant phylum in all water samples were similar, and they included; Proteobacteria, Cyanobacterium, Bacteroidetes, Actinob bacteria, Planctomycetes and Chlorobi, distributed in different proportions in the different months and ponds.
Abstract: The changes of microbial community in aquaculture systems under the effects of stocking densities and seasonality were investigated in tilapia ponds. Total DNAs were extracted from the water samples, 16S rRNA gene was amplified and the bacterial community analyzed by Illumina high-throughput sequencing obtaining 3486 OTUs, from a total read of 715,842 sequences. Basing on the analysis of bacterial compositions, richness, diversity, bacterial 16S rRNA gene abundance, water sample comparisons and existence of specific bacterial taxa within three fish ponds in a 4 months period, the study conclusively observed that the dominant phylum in all water samples were similar, and they included; Proteobacteria, Cyanobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, Planctomycetes and Chlorobi, distributed in different proportions in the different months and ponds. The seasonal changes had a more pronounced effect on the bacterioplankton community than the stocking densities; however some differences between the ponds were more likely caused by feed coefficient than by stocking densities. At the same time, most bacterial communities were affected by the nutrient input except phylum Cyanobacteria that was also affected by the feed control of tilapia.

TL;DR: Gelatin was extracted from the skin of farmed sturgeon (Acipenser schrenckii) with a yield of 19.6% and its properties were evaluated as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Gelatin was extracted from the skin of farmed Amur sturgeon (Acipenser schrenckii) with a yield of 19.6% and its properties were evaluated. Its glycine and imino acids (proline and hydroxyproline) content were 336 and 138 residues/1000 residues respectively. Based on electrophoretic study, gelatin consisted of two major protein bands corresponding to α-chain and cross-linked component (β-chain). The gel strength of gelatin was 316 g, while its gelling and melting temperatures were 13 and 19.6 °C respectively as determined by temperature sweep test. Flow behavior of gelatin solutions as a function of concentration (1, 3 and 5%) and temperature (10, 30, 45 and 60 °C) indicated a clear non-Newtonian, pseudoplastic behavior at 10°C and 5% gelatin solution. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic study showed major absorption bands of amide A, I, II and III at 3414.73, 1640.60, 1534.57 and 1235.01 cm-1 respectively.
