TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide dynamic service provisioning by creating embedded Optical Transport Network (OTN) ports on the fly during mesh restoration or circuit provisioning, referred to as fast paths.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides dynamic service provisioning by creating embedded Optical Transport Network (OTN) ports on the fly during mesh restoration or circuit provisioning. These dynamically provisioned ports are referred to herein as “fast paths” with all the management objects created in a “slow path” so that they do not interfere with mesh restoration performance. During network failures, these dynamically created objects are deleted via the “slow path” and a new mesh path supports “fast path” creation of these objects. This results in substantial increase in mesh performance and also provides enhancements for operators allowing a “Click and Go” model to provision circuits across a network. This also reduces routing scaling issue as the routing itself is against the OTU level and not against the embedded lines.

TL;DR: In this paper, a computer-implemented method, a controller, and a Software Defined Network (SDN) perform steps of correlating users based on unique identifiers to service addresses, receiving historical data from associated control area operator for the service addresses; correlating the users' bandwidth usage behavior to the users power usage behavior; monitoring the users" bandwidth usage over time; characterizing bandwidth usage type for the users with abnormal bandwidth usage usage patterns; and notifying the control area operators of the user with the abnormality bandwidth usage patterns based on the characterized bandwidth usage types.
Abstract: A computer-implemented method, a controller, and a Software Defined Network (SDN) perform steps of correlating users based on unique identifiers to service addresses; receiving historical data from associated control area operator for the service addresses; correlating the users' bandwidth usage behavior to the users' power usage behavior; monitoring the users' bandwidth usage over time; characterizing bandwidth usage type for the users with abnormal bandwidth usage patterns; and notifying the control area operator of the users with the abnormal bandwidth usage patterns based on the characterized bandwidth usage type. Accordingly, electric power forecasting by the control area operator can include improved accuracy through correlating the users' bandwidth usage behavior and detecting abnormal conditions.

TL;DR: A Kalman filter with deterministic error input model is adopted in this embedded real-time control system to reduce both deterministic and random measurement error effects.
Abstract: The tracking performance of the United Kingdom InfraRed Telescope (UKIRT) is directly related to the accuracy of the position measurement which is given by an encoder. It is found that the encoder has some deterministic and random measurement errors which cause consistent "wobbling" of the telescope. Therefore, a Kalman filter with deterministic error input model is adopted in this embedded real-time control system to reduce both deterministic and random measurement error effects. Our extensive test shows that the system tracking performance is improved. Astronomers' report confirms our result.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method of encrypting an optical communications signal involves determining an encryption function, filtering an electrical input signal using the encryption function to generate an encrypted electrical signal, and modulating an optical source using the encrypted electrical signals to generate a corresponding encrypted optical signal.
Abstract: A method of encrypting an optical communications signal involves determining an encryption function, filtering an electrical input signal using the encryption function to generate an encrypted electrical signal, and modulating an optical source using the encrypted electrical signal to generate a corresponding encrypted optical signal. This is then transmitted through an optical communications system. The encryption is selected such as to substantially remove symbol definition from the optical signal. This method provides digital signal processing of an electrical input signal in order to derive a signal for controlling an optical modulator in such a way that the optical signal transmitted over the link is a continuous analogue signal rather than a series of discrete symbols which alternate between well-defined signal values. This makes it difficult for a third party to derive the binary bit sequence encoded by the optical signal.
