TL;DR: Results indicate that environmental awareness and standard result in strategy shift and optimal prices in both stages are positively impacted by the CEA and the standard.
Abstract: Energy efficiency (EE) level has become an essential environmental index of products and can be improved by EE innovation. With consideration of EE level evolution and market differentiation, an optimal control model under a two-market framework is proposed to investigate EE innovation and two-stage pricing strategies. Impacts of consumer environmental awareness (CEA) and EE standard on optimal investment and pricing strategies are discussed. Results indicate that environmental awareness and standard result in strategy shift. As environmental awareness increases, the EE level driven by investment strategy may switch from staying in traditional market, to expanding markets by entering the green market and remaining at the standard, till capturing the green market and keeping above that standard. Impacts of standard on strategy shift exhibit a tricky trend. For loose and appropriate standards, the producer prefers to invest more to expand market by entering the green market with the increase of standard. However, a stringent standard may prevent the producer from entering the green market. In addition, optimal prices in both stages are positively impacted by the CEA and the standard.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors empirically analyze promotional strategies for energy-efficient technologies adoption in developing countries by considering the Pakistani context and find that government tax incentives and energyefficient technologies-related financial schemes are the most important promotion strategies and could expedite energy efficient technologies adoption.
Abstract: Energy conservation and improving efficiency remain top issues facing construction projects today. Studies on energy-efficient technologies are scarce in construction sector, and this area needs to be focused. Energy-efficient technologies have been proved important tools to manage cost and improve project efficiency. Despite the fact that energy-efficient technologies have been embraced by developed countries, its adoption and usage are still at an infancy state in developing countries due to different obstacles. Due to energy shortage and crises, promotional strategies need to be established to facilitate the integration of energy-efficient technologies in construction projects of developing countries. Therefore, the current study empirically aims to analyze promotional strategies for energy-efficient technologies adoption in developing countries by considering the Pakistani context. Initially, major promotional strategies were extracted from earlier studies and then filtered through the fuzzy Delphi method. Later, a structure analysis was performed to prioritize essential strategies by utilizing mixed methodology of interpretive structural modeling and ‘Matriced’ Impacts Croise´s Multiplication Applique´e a UN Classement’. The results found that ‘Government tax incentives and energy-efficient technologies-related financial schemes’, ‘organizing international conferences and workshops to support energy-efficient technologies adoptions’, ‘learning from energy policies of developed countries’, ‘government regulations and standards’ are the most important promotion strategies and could expedite energy-efficient technologies adoption in construction projects of Pakistan. Theoretically, this study contributes to construction sector literature by enlisting major promotional and practically, this study could be useful for Governments and policymakers to integrate these strategies into long-term planning to promote energy-efficient technologies in construction projects.
