Abstract: A hydrophobic and particulate soil removal composition is provided. The composition can be used for removing organic hydrophobic soils, such as oily or greasy soils, from a laundry item and/or from a hard surface such as an engine part and/or from skin. The composition can be used in a liquid or solid form and can be applied to individual laundry items in the form of a solid stick or liquid spray prior to introduction to the laundry machine. Laundry items can also be contacted in the laundry machine with the pre-spot or pre-treatment composition in the form of an aqueous presoak, preflush, prewash, or other step prior to the cleaning step. The treatment composition can be used as a recirculating liquid stream or bath for the cleaning of hard surfaces. The composition includes an ethoxylate component and a fatty acid ester component.

Abstract: We present a Bayesian hierarchical model to estimate the abundance and the biomass of brown trout (Salmo trutta fario) by using removal sampling and biometric data collected at several stream sections. The model accounts for (i) variability of the abundance with fish length (as a distribution mixture), (ii) spatial variability of the abundance, (iii) variability of the catchability with fish length (as a logit regression model), (iv) spatial variability of the catchability, and (v) residual variability of the catchability with fish. Model measured variables are the areas of the stream sections as well as the length and the weight of the caught fish. We first test the model by using a simulated dataset before using a 3-location, 2-removal sampling dataset collected in the field. Fifteen model alternatives are compared with an index of complexity and fit by using the field dataset. The selected model accounts for variability of the abundance with fish length and stream section and variability of the catchability with fish length. By using the selected model, 95% credible interval estimates of the abundances at the three stream sections are (0.46,0.59), (0.90,1.07), and (0.56,0.69) fish/m2. Respective biomass estimates are (9.68, 13.58), (17.22, 22.71), and (12.69, 17.31) g/m2.

Abstract: The invention relates to methods and compositions for removing metal oxide soils from surfaces. The compositions include an anionic surfactant and a pH adjuster at an acidic pH. In one embodiment, the invention relates to a method of removing a metal oxide soil from a surface by (1) applying a use composition to the surface, the use composition having a pH adjuster in an amount sufficient to provide a use pH at or below 7, an anionic surfactant in an amount to remove a portion of the metal oxide soil, and a carrier, (2) removing the metal oxide soil from the surface with the use composition, and (3) rinsing the surface to remove the use composition and the metal oxide soil.

Abstract: Green compositions and technologies are provided. In an embodiment, the present invention provides a method of separating a first material from a second material. For example, the method can comprise mixing the first material and the second material in a slurry with a beneficiation composition. The beneficiation composition can comprise one or more glyceride and fatty acid mixtures extracted from an ethanol process. Air bubbles can be provided in the slurry to form bubble-particle aggregates with the first material and the bubble-particle aggregates can be allowed to be separated from the second material.
