Abstract: Thermoplastic starch (TPS) matrix was reinforced with various kenaf bast cellulose nanofiber loadings (0–10 wt%). Thin films were prepared by casting and evaporating the mixture of aqueous suspension of nanofibers (NFs), starch, and glycerol which underwent gelatinization process at the same time. Moreover, raw fibers (RFs) reinforced TPS films were prepared with the same contents and conditions. The effects of filler type and loading on different characteristics of prepared materials were studied using transmission and scanning electron microscopies, X-ray diffractometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, and moisture absorption analysis. Obtained results showed a homogeneous dispersion of NFs within the TPS matrix and strong association between the filler and matrix. Moreover, addition of nanoreinforcements decreased the moisture sensitivity of the TPS film significantly. About 20 % decrease in moisture content at equilibrium was observed with addition of 10 wt% NFs while this value was only 5.7 % for the respective RFs reinforced film.

Abstract: The recent introduction of task dependencies in the OpenMP specification provides new ways of synchronizing tasks. Application programmers can now describe the data a task will read as input and write as output, letting the runtime system resolve fine-grain dependencies between tasks to decide which task should execute next. Such an approach should scale better than the excessive global synchronization found in most OpenMP 3.0 applications. As promising as it looks however, any new feature needs proper evaluation to encourage application programmers to embrace it. This paper introduces the KASTORS benchmark suite designed to evaluate OpenMP tasks dependencies. We modified state-of-the-art OpenMP 3.0 benchmarks and data-flow parallel linear algebra kernels to make use of tasks dependencies. Learning from this experience, we propose extensions to the current OpenMP specification to improve the expressiveness of dependencies. We eventually evaluate both the GCC/libGOMP and the CLANG/libIOMP implementations of OpenMP 4.0 on our KASTORS suite, demonstrating the interest of task dependencies compared to taskwait-based approaches.

Abstract: In the present work, we report on the corrosion properties of the Fe 60 Cr 8 Nb 8 B 24 (at.%) alloy produced using pure and commercial materials in the following conditions: amorphous ribbons, partially crystallized ribbons and coatings produced by spray deposition and powder flame spraying process, in this case LVOF (low velocity oxygen fuel). The amorphous ribbons showed excellent corrosion resistance with formation of a stable passive film that ensured a very large passivation plateau. The (LVOF) coatings presented high fraction of amorphous phase with a layered structure, high porosity (16.2%) and low oxidation level (~ 0.1%). The spray formed coatings presented crystalline structure with low porosity (1.9%) and low oxidation level (~ 0.1%). The coatings showed higher corrosion current densities (up to two orders of magnitude) compared to the amorphous ribbons of the same composition for all pH. This deterioration in the corrosion properties were found to be impaired by the presence of crystalline phases.
