TL;DR: The washing step of hospital sterilisation services is model as a batch scheduling problem where medical device sets are treated as jobs with non-identical sizes and release dates, but equal processing times.
Abstract: The problem we study in this paper arises from the washing step of hospital sterilisation services. Washers in the washing step are capable of handling more than one medical device set as long as their capacity is not exceeded. The medical device set sizes and arrival times to the sterilisation service may be different, but they all have the same washing duration. Thus, we model the washing step as a batch scheduling problem where medical device sets are treated as jobs with non-identical sizes and release dates, but equal processing times. The main findings we present in this paper are the following. First, we study two special cases for which polynomial algorithms are presented. We then develop a 2-approximation algorithm for the general problem. Finally, we develop a MILP model and compare it with another MILP model from the literature. Computational results show that our MILP model outperforms the model from the literature.

TL;DR: In this paper, the thermoelectric power of single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) thin films in pure metallic SWCNT and pure semiconducting SW CNT networks as well as in m- and s-SW CNT mixtures was investigated.
Abstract: The thermoelectric power (TEP) of single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) thin films in pure metallic SWCNT (m-SWCNT) and pure semiconducting SWCNT (s-SWCNT) networks as well as in m- and s-SWCNT mixtures is investigated. The TEP measured on the pure s-SWCNT film (≈88 μV/K) was found to be almost 7 times higher than that of the m-SWCNTs (≈13 μV/K). Moreover, a quasilinear increase of TEP of the mixed SWCNT networks was observed as the fraction of s-SWCNTs is increased. The experimentally determined relationship between TEP and the fraction of s-SWCNTs in the mixture allows fast and simple quantitative analysis of the s:m ratio in any as-prepared heterogeneous SWCNT network. Furthermore, a semiempirical model analyzing the effect of the intertube junctions is proposed and applied to describe the thermoelectric behavior of the prepared SWCNT networks. The results of calculations match well with the experimental data and clearly demonstrate that the measured TEP of thin SWCNT films is principally controlled by...

TL;DR: In this paper, electro-thermal performance maps are used to characterise stack operation with varying air flow rate (for both cooling and cathode oxygen supply), and the nonlinear power requirement of air blowers is used to modify stack-level electrothermal maps to give system-level performance maps capable of identifying the optimum air flow ratio to maximise net power output and consequently efficiency at a given operating point.

01 Nov 2016TL;DR: In this article, a dual-band rectenna for RF energy harvesting system is presented, which is optimized for low input power level of −20dBm using harmonic balance, with power conversion efficiency of 20% and 40.8% in measurement.
Abstract: This paper presents a novel dual-band rectenna for RF energy harvesting system. This rectenna is created from a dual-band antenna and a dual-band rectifier which operates at GSM bands (900 MHz and 1800 MHz). The printed monopole antenna is miniaturized by two meander-lines. The received signal from the receiving antenna is rectified by a voltage doubler using Schottky diode SMS-7630. The rectifier is optimized for low input power level of −20dBm using harmonic balance. Prototype is designed and fabricated. The simulation is validated by measurement with power conversion efficiency of 20% and 40.8% (in measurement) at the input power level of −20dBm. The proposed rectenna has output voltage from 183–415 mV. From the measured results, this rectenna provides the possibility to harvest the ambient electromagnetic energy for powering low-power electronic devices.
