TL;DR: In this paper, a novel polyoxyethylene lauryl ether + n -hexanol/n -heptance/water (zinc nitrate + ferrum nitrate or cobalt nitrates or chromium nitrate) W/O microemulsion method has been successfully fabricated by using a new polyoxelene laurel ether and n-hexanol-n-heptane/n-hexane/ n-hepticance/Water (znM 2 O 4) W /O micro-emulsion.
Abstract: Ultrafine ZnM 2 O 4 (M = Fe, Co, Cr) powders have been successfully fabricated by using a novel polyoxyethylene lauryl ether + n -hexanol/ n -heptance/water (zinc nitrate + ferrum nitrate or cobalt nitrate or chromium nitrate) W/O microemulsion method. The composition and the structure of the powers have been investigated by means of XRD and TEM. The results show the as-received ZnM 2 O 4 have spinel-type structure and the every size of the spherical particles are below 60 nm with good dispersity. The influence of temperature on the sensitivities, selectivities, and the response and recovery characteristics are tested. The results of gas sensing measurement show the ZnFe 2 O 4 sensors have a high sensitivity, excellent selectivity and quick response behavior to Cl 2 gas compared with ZnCo 2 O 4 and ZnCr 2 O 4 sensors. The response of ZnFe 2 O 4 to Cl 2 gas shows the resistance increase that indicates an n-type semiconductor behavior while ZnCo 2 O 4 and ZnCr 2 O 4 have p-type semiconductor characteristic.

TL;DR: In this article, two perovskite-type oxides were synthesized by sol-gel method in the citric acid system and the structure and crystal phase of the powders were characterized on an X-ray diffractometer.
Abstract: Nanometer materials of rare earth mixed oxides REFeO3 (RE=Eu, Gd) with the structure of perovskite type were synthesized by sol–gel method in the citric acid system. The structure and crystal phase of the powders were characterized on an X-ray diffractometer. The shape and size were analyzed with the help of JEM-100X Transmission electron microscopy. The results show that the morphologies of the two perovskite-type oxides are spherical with the mean grain size of 20 and 21 nm, respectively. Their crystal structures show a certain amount of lattice distortion due to the decrease of grain size and the increase of surface area. Gas sensitivities of these two kinds of materials to C2H5OH, H2S, gasoline and H2 were tested. The studies of gas-sensing characteristics show the sensitivities of EuFeO3 and GdFeO3 nanometer materials to gasoline are 39 and 45 at 340 °C, respectively, and both of them have appropriate selectivity. So they are promising candidates for the detection of gasoline in monitoring environment.

TL;DR: The pattern of China"s inter-regional research collaboration (IRRC) is shown, and a new method is used to calculate the expected value matrix based on an observed value matrix of IRRC, which is asymmetric and has no diagonal elements.
Abstract: On the basis of the measured frequency distribution of China"s inter-regional co-authored papers covered by the Chinese Science Citation Database, this paper shows the pattern of China"s inter-regional research collaboration (IRRC), and analyzes how the collaborative pattern was formed. A new method is used to calculate the expected value matrix based on an observed value matrix of IRRC, which is asymmetric and has no diagonal elements. The results fall into three groups. 1) Regional scientific productivity affects both the collaborative preference and ranking of authors" name; 2) geographical proximity is an important factor determining the pattern of IRRC; 3) when using Salton"s measure, regional mean collaborative strength increases as the regional productivity increases, and as the distance between two regions decreases.

TL;DR: In this paper, the dispersion relations of propagating optical-phonon (POP) modes and the EPP coupling functions are investigated for a given wurtzite multilayer heterostructure.
Abstract: The equation of motion for the $p$-polarization field in an arbitrary wurtzite multilayer heterostructure is solved for the propagating optical-phonon (POP) modes in the framework of the dielectric-continuum model and Loudon's uniaxial crystal model. The polarization eigenvector, the dispersion relation, and the electron-propagating-phonon (EPP) interaction Fr\"ohlich-like Hamiltonian are derived. The analytical formulas can be directly applied to single heterojunctions, single and multiple quantum wells (QW's), and superlattices. The dispersion relations of the POP modes and the EPP coupling functions are investigated for a given $\mathrm{GaN}∕{\mathrm{Al}}_{0.15}{\mathrm{Ga}}_{0.85}\mathrm{N}$ single QW with full account of the strains of QW structures and the anisotropy effects of wurtzite crystals. We find that there are infinite POP branches, which can be denoted by a quantum number $n(n=1,2,\dots{})$, with definite symmetry with respect to the center of symmetry of the QW structure. The dispersion of the POP modes with smaller $n$ is more obvious than for larger $n$. Moreover, the modes with smaller $n$ are much more important for the EPP interactions than the modes with larger $n$. In most cases, it is enough to consider the modes with $n=1,2,\dots{},10$ for the EPP interactions in a single QW. The long-wavelength POP modes are much more important for the EPP interactions. Furthermore, the strain effects of the QW structures have a strong influence on the dispersion of the POP modes. The strength of the EPP interactions is markedly increased due to the strains of the QW structures.

TL;DR: Investigation of seeds survival, scatter-hoarding, cache size and seedling establishment, and the preference of micro-habitats used by rodents to store seeds in the Donglingshan Mountains of Mentougou District of Beijing, China showed that rodents in this area hoarded food intensively in autumn, as well as in spring and summer.
Abstract: The wild apricot (Prunus armeniaca) is widely distributed in the Donglingshan Mountains of Mentougou District of Beijing, China, where its seeds may be an important food resource for rodents. Predation, removal and hoarding of seeds by rodents will inevitably affect the spatio-temporal pattern of seed fate of wild apricot in this area. By marking and releasing tagged seeds of wild apricot, we investigated seeds survival, scatter-hoarding, cache size and seedling establishment, and the preference of micro-habitats used by rodents to store seeds. The results showed that: (1) rodents in this area hoarded food intensively in autumn, as well as in spring and summer. (2) There were significant effects of habitat and season on removal rate of tagged seeds at releasing plots. In both two types of habitats, Low and High shrub, tagged seeds were removed most rapidly by rodents in autumn, at intermediate rates in spring and least rapidly in summer. (3) During three seasons, mean dispersal distance of scatter-hoarded seeds in Low shrub habitat was greater than that in High shrub. Most removed seeds were buried within 21.0 m of the releasing plots. (4) In both two types of habitats, Low and High shrub, rodents tended to carry seeds to US (Under shrub) and SE (Shrub edge) microhabitats for scatter-hoarding or predation. (5) Among the caches made by rodents, most caches contained only one seed, but up to three seeds were observed; caches of 2–3 seeds were common in autumn. (6) By comparing dental marks, we determined that large field mice (Apodemus peninsulae) and David’s rock squirrels (Sciurotamias davidianus) contributed to removal and predation of released tagged seeds. However, only the large field mice exerted a pivotal and positive role on the burial of dispersed seeds. (7) Establishment of three seedlings originated from seeds buried by rodents was documented in High shrub habitat.

TL;DR: The topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) theory predicts tree-level flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) top quark Yukawa couplings with top-pions.
Abstract: The topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) theory predicts tree-level flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) top quark Yukawa couplings with top-pions. Such FCNC interactions will induce like-sign top quark pair productions at CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). While these rare productions are far below the observable level in the Standard Model and other popular new physics models such as the Minimal Supersymmetric Model, we find that in a sound part of parameter space the TC2 model can enhance the production cross sections to several tens of fb and thus may be observable at the LHC due to rather low backgrounds. Searching for these productions at the LHC will serve as an excellent probe for the TC2 model.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the viscosity of aqueous solutions of α-amino acids (Glycine, dl-alanine, Dl-alignine, n-butyric acid, and dlα-valine) + sodium caprylate micelles.
Abstract: Densities and viscosities of aqueous solutions of α-amino acids (glycine, dl-alanine, dl-α-amino-n-butyric acid, dl-α-valine, and dl-α-leucine) + sodium caprylate have been measured as a function of the concentrations of amino acid and sodium caprylate at 298.15 K. These data have been used to calculate apparent molar volumes and viscosity B coefficients of the amino acids. The standard partial molar volume V°2,φ and standard volumes of transfer ΔtV° have been determined for the amino acids. It has been shown that values of V°2,φ and the B coefficient vary linearly with the increasing number of carbon atoms in the alkyl chain of the amino acids, and they were split into contributions from the zwitterionic end group (NH3+, COO-) and CH2 groups of the amino acids. From the volumetric data, it is suggested that the amino acids are solubilized in the palisade layer of sodium caprylate micelles. The viscosity properties have been interpreted in light of the solute−solvent interactions in aqueous media.

TL;DR: By using the well-known Green's function methods, the three-dimensional temperature distributions and thermal deformations of the output windows of unstable optical resonators induced by an incident annular laser beam are studied.
Abstract: By using the well-known Green's function methods, we study the three-dimensional temperature distributions and thermal deformations of the output windows of unstable optical resonators induced by an incident annular laser beam. Some expressions and theoretical profiles of the temperature distributions and thermal deformations as functions of the radius and of the thickness of optical windows are obtained. Moreover, the influence of the thermal deformations of sapphire, silica, and silicon windows within unstable optical resonators on the Strehl ratio and on the far-field laser intensity distribution is also discussed. Under conditions of 50-kW intense laser irradiation during 5 s, the maximum thermal deformation in sapphire, silica, and silicon substrates is 1.993, 0.393, and 6.251 microm, respectively. Under the same conditions the Strehl ratio of sapphire is higher than that of silica.
