20 May 2009TL;DR: A real-time mapping system to acquire the image and determine the geometry of the road, using an unmanned fixed-wing aircraft with double engine and double generator and a digital three-axis stabilized platform, which performs an important role in camera attitude controlling.
Abstract: Road information is useful in many fields. In this paper, a real-time mapping system is presented to acquire the image and determine the geometry of the road. These include designs of platform and instruments, data transmission, processing and archiving. Compare with the traditional platforms, the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) platforms offer greater flexibility, shorter response time and is able to generate very high resolution data. It is inexpensive to operate, and its operation is not limited by air traffic constraints. With autonomous flight control system, it is easy to navigate the aircraft along the planned lines strictly. In this system, an unmanned fixed-wing aircraft with double engine and double generator is used, which helps to improve the reliability and capability of the platform. A digital three-axis stabilized platform is developed, which performs an important role in camera attitude controlling. To ensure there is no coverage hole, a data manage system is adopted: after an instantaneous inspection of data integrity, the data will be archived as they are received. If any anomaly is detected, the mission planning will be adapted to re-image the concerned area. Vehicle information extraction from image sequence is also described in this paper. The experiment showed the presented system worked well in real-time road mapping and vehicle information extraction.

TL;DR: An improved process for cell disruption and astaxanthin extraction from Phaffica rhodozyma was studied using an autoclave at low acid concentration, and left no residual toxin and gave higher extraction recovery, with good prospects for industrial use.
Abstract: Phaffia rhodozyma is one of the most important natural sources of the carotenoid astaxanthin, and the key process for extracting intracellular astaxanthin is disrption of the thick cell wall. In this work, an improved process for cell disruption and astaxanthin extraction from Phaffica rhodozyma was studied using an autoclave at low acid concentration. Under the optimum conditions (HCl 0.5 M and autoclave pressure 0.1 Mpa, 15 min), the relative residual astaxanthin and astaxanthin extractability reached 90.4 ± 3.5% and 84.8 ± 3.2%, respectively. The scanning electron microscopy pictures showed that all yeast cells shattered into fragments after autoclave treatment at low acid concentration condition, whereas cells were intact or partly broken after treatment by some other physical and chemical processes. This new method left no residual toxin and gavehigher extraction recovery, with good prospects for industrial use.

TL;DR: Up-regulated expression of IFN-γ was observed in organs/tissues examined following the poly(I:C) stimulation, suggesting its antiviral role in lizards and may imply that the function of type II IFN system is evolutionarily conserved in the green anole lizard, as observed in other classes of vertebrates.
Abstract: In this study, interferon gamma (IFN-γ) and interferon gamma receptor (IFN-γR) genes have been identified in non-avian reptile, the North American green anole lizard (Anolis carolinensis). Like their counterparts from other jawed vertebrates, lizard IFN-γ, IFN-γR1 and IFN-γR2 show conserved features in genomic organizations, gene loci and protein sequences. The IFN-γ gene has the full cDNA sequence of 936 bp, with 522 bp open reading frame (ORF) encoding 174 amino acids, and has the genomic organization of four exons and three introns as observed in IFN-γ genes of other classes of vertebrates. The receptors, IFN-γR1 and IFN-γR2 have the ORF of 1278 and 984 bp, coding for 425 and 327 aa, respectively, with the genome organization of seven exons and six introns. In the gene loci of IFN-γ, DYRK2, IL22, IL26 and MDM1 are found with conserved synteny in vertebrates, and similar genes adjacent to IFN-γR1 and IFN-γR2 were also found. These receptors also contain conserved motifs, such as the membrane-proximal region and the C-terminal five residue motif in IFN-γR1, and intracellular conservative sequence in IFN-γR2, which have been confirmed to mediate down-stream JAK-STAT signaling pathway in mammals. IFN-γ and its receptors, IFN-γR1 and IFN-γR2 were constitutively expressed in organs/tissues examined in the lizard, and up-regulated expression of IFN-γ was observed in organs/tissues examined following the poly(I:C) stimulation, suggesting its antiviral role in lizards. The conserved features of IFN-γ and its receptors, IFN-γR1 and IFN-γR2, in gene organization and gene locus as well as in functional domain or motif may imply that the function of type II IFN system is evolutionarily conserved in the green anole lizard, as observed in other classes of vertebrates.
