TL;DR: LCWAP kills bacteria by aggregating on the cell surface, destroying the integrity of bacterial cell membrane and resulting in the leakage of intracellular solutes, and inhibit biofilm formation at concentrations of 1-1/16 × MIC.

TL;DR: A new class of ionic liquids with fumarate anion was synthesized by neutralization of aqueous 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydroxide with equimolar monoester fumidate and characterized using NMR and thermal gravimetric analysis, suggesting that the ILs may have potential applications in the modern biotechnology.
Abstract: The shortage of new antimicrobial drugs and increasing resistance of microbe to antimicrobial agents have been of some concern. The formulation studies of new antibacterial and antifungal agents have been an active research field. Ionic liquids are known as designed liquids with controllable physical/chemical/biological properties and specific functions, which have been attracting considerable interest over recent years. However, no attention has been made towards the preparation of ionic liquids with antimicrobial activities. In this paper, a new class of ionic liquids (ILs) with fumarate anion was synthesized by neutralization of aqueous 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydroxide with equimolar monoester fumarate and characterized using NMR and thermal gravimetric analysis. The ILs are soluble in water and polar organic solvents and also soluble in the common ILs. The antimicrobial activities of the ILs are more active than commercially available potassium sorbate and are greatly affected by the alkyl chain length. The significant antimicrobial properties observed in this research suggest that the ILs may have potential applications in the modern biotechnology.

TL;DR: It is reported that fibroblast growth factor (FGF) promotes NF-κB signaling in PCa cells and that this increase is associated withFGFR1 expression and that ectopically expressed FGFR1 promotes PCa progression, at least in part, by increasing inflammation in the tumor microenvironment.

TL;DR: It is suggested that bathing European eels in A. hydrophila would positively affect specific as well as non-specific immune parameters and protect against A. Hydrophila infection in freshwater farming.
Abstract: The specific and non-specific immune parameters and protection of European eels (Anguilla anguilla) were evaluated after bathing eels with Aeromonas hydrophila. Two hundred eels were distributed into two equal groups and bathed with Phosphate-buffered saline (Control group) or 1.0 × 107 cfu mL−1 A. hydrophila (Test group) for 1 h respectively. Then, eels were bled aseptically from the caudal sinus on 1, 4, 7, 14 and 28 days post treatment. The blood cells were used to evaluate the cellular immunity and the serum was used to determine the titres of specific antibody as well as the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and lysozyme. Eels from both groups were challenged by intraperitoneal injection of 1.0 × 107 cfu of A. hydrophila on 28 and 42 days post bathing. The results show that eels bathed in A. hydrophila significantly (P < 0.05) enhanced the proliferation of different types of blood cells and the serum titres of anti-A. hydrophila antibody. The Relative Percent Survival (RPS) after challenge on 28 and 42 days post bathing in Test group vs. Control group was 40% and 50% respectively. These results suggest that bathing European eels in A. hydrophila would positively affect specific as well as non-specific immune parameters and protect against A. hydrophila infection in freshwater farming.

TL;DR: In this paper, three injection strategies are proposed to investigate this injection method: D/M mode and M/D mode are where methanol injection occurs later and earlier than diesel injection respectively while M/ D/m mode is where methenol is injected once before and once after the diesel injection.
