TL;DR: In this paper, an air homogenous dielectric barrier discharge excited by bipolar nanosecond pulse voltage is obtained and used for the surface modification of polypropylene non-woven fabric at atmospheric pressure.
Abstract: In this paper, an air homogenous dielectric barrier discharge excited by bipolar nanosecond pulse voltage is obtained and used for the surface modification of polypropylene non-woven fabric at atmospheric pressure. Compared with the DBD plasma excited by sine alternating current (AC) voltage, nanosecond pulsed dielectric barrier discharge exhibits obvious advantages, e.g., better discharge homogeneity, lower energy cost, and lower plasma gas temperature etc. Hence it presents the potential application in improving the hydrophilic property of polypropylene non-woven fabric with high energy efficiency and without surface damage. To reduce the water contact angle of the polypropylene surface from 145° to 110°, the average energy cost of the nanosecond pulsed dielectric barrier discharge is only about 0.1 J/cm2, which is about 1/20 of AC dielectric barrier discharge. On the other hand, the surface damage of non-woven fabric induced by nanosecond pulsed dielectric barrier discharge plasma cannot be distinguished by SEM photographs.

TL;DR: In this paper, a model of a hybrid ratio-dependent three species food chain, which is constituted by a hybrid type subsystem of prey and middle-predator and a middle-top predators subsystem with Holling type-II functional response, is proposed and studied.
Abstract: In this paper, we propose and study a model of a hybrid ratio-dependent three species food chain, which is constituted by a hybrid type subsystem of prey and middle-predator and a middle-top predators’ subsystem with Holling type-II functional response. We investigate the persistence and Hopf bifurcation of the system. Computer simulations are carried out to explain the mathematical conclusions. The chaotic attractor is obtained for suitable choice of parametric values.

TL;DR: This study verified that EcoRI-NlaIII based GBS could produce quality SNP markers in a cost-efficient manner in teleost genome and provided invaluable resources for the population structure, conservation genetics and genomic selection of large yellow croaker and other fish organisms.
Abstract: Whole-genome single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers are valuable genetic resources for the association and conservation studies. Genome-wide SNP development in many teleost species are still challenging because of the genome complexity and the cost of re-sequencing. Genotyping-By-Sequencing (GBS) provided an efficient reduced representative method to squeeze cost for SNP detection; however, most of recent GBS applications were reported on plant organisms. In this work, we used an EcoRI-NlaIII based GBS protocol to teleost large yellow croaker, an important commercial fish in China and East-Asia, and reported the first whole-genome SNP development for the species. 69,845 high quality SNP markers that evenly distributed along genome were detected in at least 80% of 500 individuals. Nearly 95% randomly selected genotypes were successfully validated by Sequenom MassARRAY assay. The association studies with the muscle eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) content discovered 39 significant SNP markers, contributing as high up to ∼63% genetic variance that explained by all markers. Functional genes that involved in fat digestion and absorption pathway were identified, such as APOB, CRAT and OSBPL10. Notably, PPT2 Gene, previously identified in the association study of the plasma n-3 and n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid level in human, was re-discovered in large yellow croaker. Our study verified that EcoRI-NlaIII based GBS could produce quality SNP markers in a cost-efficient manner in teleost genome. The developed SNP markers and the EPA and DHA associated SNP loci provided invaluable resources for the population structure, conservation genetics and genomic selection of large yellow croaker and other fish organisms.

TL;DR: Aptamers against inactive Vibrio alginolyticus were selected from an 82-nt ssDNA random library by systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment and revealed that some sequences, termed high-frequency aptamers, appeared more than once; these may be of practical application.
Abstract: Aptamers against inactive Vibrio alginolyticus were selected from an 82-nt ssDNA random library by systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment. After 15 rounds of selection, the final pool of aptamers was highly specific for inactivated V. alginolyticus and had a dissociation constant of 27.5 ± 9.2 nM. Using these aptamers and PCR, V. alginolyticus could be detected at 100 cells/ml. Sequencing of the final pool of aptamers revealed that some sequences, termed high-frequency aptamers, appeared more than once; these may be of practical application. All sequences obtained were divided into nine families according to their homology tree, some conserved sequences were also found in each of the six families. One sequence was found in significant proportions of the aptamers, suggesting that this conserved sequence might be important for forming the three-dimensional aptamer structure.
