TL;DR: In this article, the amount of energy used in boilers, ways employed to evaluate their energy efficiency, losses occurred and their causes, ways of waste heat recovery and minimizing heat loss using technologies, role of maintenance activities, and technical education to make people aware of the energy usage.
Abstract: Boiler is a widely used steam generating system in industries and power plants A significant portion of the world energy consumption is being used in boilers A small improvement on the boiler efficiency will help to save a large amount of fossil fuels and to reduce CO2 emission This study describes the amount of energy used in boilers, ways employed to evaluate their energy efficiency, losses occurred and their causes, ways of waste heat recovery and minimizing heat loss using technologies, role of maintenance activities, and technical education to make people aware of the energy usage Latest published literature on the above mentioned topics which includes PhD and MSc theses, journal articles, conference proceedings, reports and web materials have been reviewed and reported It is found that a substantial amount of energy is wasted through high temperature flue gas or exhaust of the boiler Also, some other unavoidable losses occurr due to various reasons However, waste heat could be recovered using different technologies as a useful form of energy such as electricity, heat, refrigeration effect, etc The efficiency of the boiler can be improved by doing scheduled maintenance work, which helps to run a boiler at its highest efficiency In order to create awareness about energy use, education programs and seminars need to be arranged on regular basis for the staff involved This will help them to understand the importance of the energy as being used in the boiler system as well as the impact of their actions during the operation of the boiler

TL;DR: In this article, the basic theories of molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations are highlighted and some mechanistic and energetic information on how organic corrosion inhibitors interact with iron and copper metals are provided.
Abstract: It is difficult to understand the atomistic information on the interaction at the metal/corrosion inhibitor interface experimentally which is a key to understanding the mechanism by which inhibitors prevent the corrosion of metals. Atomistic simulations (molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo) are mostly performed in corrosion inhibition research to give deeper insights into the mechanism of inhibition of corrosion inhibitors on metal surfaces at the atomic and molecular time scales. A lot of works on the use of molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulation to investigate corrosion inhibition phenomenon have appeared in the literature in recent times. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive review on the understanding of corrosion inhibition mechanism using these atomistic simulation methodologies. In this review paper, we first of all introduce briefly some important molecular modeling simulations methods. Thereafter, the basic theories of molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations are highlighted. Several studies on the use of atomistic simulations as a modern tool in corrosion inhibition research are presented. Some mechanistic and energetic information on how organic corrosion inhibitors interact with iron and copper metals are provided. This atomic and molecular level information could aid in the design, synthesis and development of new and novel corrosion inhibitors for industrial applications.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered the Timoshenko system with Dirichlet boundary conditions and established a general stability estimate using the multiplier method and some properties of convex functions, and showed that the energy of the system is bounded above by a quantity, depending on g and h, which tends to zero as time goes to infinity.
Abstract: In this paper we consider the following Timoshenko system: in (0, L) × ℝ + {ρ 1 ϕ tt -k 1 (ϕ x +ψ) x =0 ρ 2 ψ tt - k 2 ψ xx + ∫ t 0 g(t - τ)(a(x)ψ x (τ)) x dτ+k 1 (ϕ x + ψ) + b(x)h(ψ t ) =0 in (0, L) × ℝ + with Dirichlet boundary conditions and initial data where a, b, g and h are specific functions and ρ 1 , ρ 2 , κ 1 , κ 2 and L are given positive constants. We establish a general stability estimate using the multiplier method and some properties of convex functions. Without imposing any growth condition on h at the origin, we show that the energy of the system is bounded above by a quantity, depending on g and h, which tends to zero as time goes to infinity. Our estimate allows us to consider a large class of functions h with general growth at the origin. We use some examples (known in the case of wave equations and Maxwell system) to show how to derive from our general estimate the polynomial, exponential or logarithmic decay. The results of this paper improve and generalize some existing results in the literature and generate some interesting open problems.
