TL;DR: In this paper, the joint integrity and strength of high performance Ti-6Al-4V to low density AA2024 joints are analyzed for joining of aircraft structures of aerospace applications, and the microstructural aspects are investigated to study the bonding mechanism to obtain defect-free welds.
Abstract: Friction push plug welding, a recent variation of friction welding process has tremendous applications in joining and repairing operations in aerospace and automotive engineering. The main objective of the present work demonstrates joining feasibility of high performance Ti-6Al-4V to low density AA2024 employed in passenger seat track, vertical stabilizers and wing spars of aircraft structures of aerospace applications. Mechanical testing is carried out to analyse the joint integrity and strength of Ti-6Al-4V/AA2024 joints. The microstructural aspects are investigated to study the bonding mechanism to obtain defect-free welds. SEM micrograph reveals the formation of different zones with significant reduction in grain size. EDX analysis confirms the formation of Ti3Al intermetallic compound which is less brittle. Appreciable impact strength of about 286.354 kJ/m2 indicates friction push plug welding as a promising candidate for joining of Ti-6Al-4V and AA2024 in airframe structures.

TL;DR: In this article, boron carbide reinforcement within AA6061 alloy is investigated in terms of its mechanical and tribological properties, including tensile strength, bending strength, impact strength, shear properties and micro-hardness.
Abstract: The use of boron carbide-reinforced aluminium matrix composites has grown rapidly in critical applications of aerospace industries, automotive sectors, military, and nuclear engineering. However, boron carbide reinforcement within AA6061 alloy is worthy of investigation in terms of its mechanical and tribological properties. Novel aluminium matrix composites were developed with three different reinforcements (i.e. 5, 10, and 15 wt% of B4C) by using the stir casting process. The developed samples were then tested for performance in terms of mechanical properties (i.e. tensile strength, bending strength, impact strength, shear properties, and micro-hardness). The microstructure of the developed samples was analysed using a scanning electron microscope. By adding 5% B4C reinforcement, the samples display enhanced mechanical properties (high bending, increased resistance to impact test, and shear strength). The micro-hardness tends to increase by increasing the percentage of reinforcement. The novel composites have superior wear resistance due to an increase in the content of B4C particles. The measurements indicate that the wear rate resistance is significantly higher for the composite material with a large amount of B4C particles when was compared with AA6061 alloy. The patterns of surface analysis reveal a homogeneous distribution of ceramic reinforcements in 5 and 15 wt% of B4C samples, as well as a low agglomeration of embedded particles.

TL;DR: An algorithm for classifying color textures using wavelet transform is described, which is useful for extracting texture features of images and is found to be satisfactory.
Abstract: Texture and color are two very important attributes in image analysis. While the color information describes the first order image properties, the texture generally describes second order property of surfaces and scenes, measured over image intensities. The need to include color aspect in texture analysis is being felt increasingly. The important aspect is, the way in which the chromatic information is involved in the formation and description of a texture. This paper describes an algorithm for classifying color textures using wavelet transform. Wavelet transform is useful for extracting texture features of images. A set of features are derived and color texture classification is done for different combination of the features and for different color models. The results obtained are found to be satisfactory.
