TL;DR: In this article, i-Tree Canopy random point sampling and remote sensing methods were applied using the most current Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus images of Osmaniye City.
Abstract: Urban trees provide a wide range of significant benefits, and their degradation can result in air pollution and floods, and can damage public health and decrease social welfare. The purpose of this research was to estimate the urban tree cover (UTC) and impervious surface cover (ISC) density and to evaluate how they influence forest gain and loss in Turkey. Accordingly, i-Tree Canopy random point sampling and remote sensing methods were applied using the most current Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus images of Osmaniye City. The results indicate that the majority (n = 217) of random points were overlapped with buildings on aerial photograph with a percent cover estimate of 34.1 ± 1.88%. Also, the second highest number of the randomly selected points (n = 166) overlapped with road cover at estimate of 26.1 ± 1.74%. Grass cover (n = 68), ISC (n = 59), and shrub cover (n = 52) percentages were estimated as 10.7 ± 1.22%, 9.26 ± 1.15%, and 8.16 ± 1.08%, respectively. UTC (n = 41) percentage was estimated as 6.44 ± 0.97% in the urban city center. The lowest percent cover of randomly selected points was parking lots (n = 34) estimated as 5.34 ± 0.89%. Also, the forest loss intensity was unevenly distributed and reflected areas with high population density, and forest cover loss was estimated at the highest level on the east side of the city center. The findings of this research suggest that urbanization around the city center of Osmaniye has altered the local vegetative cover due to deforestation activities to create areas for building construction and new developments.

TL;DR: In this article, the change social media, which is evaluated within the concept of informationalism and which represents a new and rich communication environment has been evaluated with a critical point of view within the framework of netocracy.
Abstract: Internet is the most important source of access to the information needed in the new life environment of the information society. This environment, which is formed by the traditional environment through the internet and is called new environment created by the intense influence of the Internet in the everyday relationships, has given a different perspective to the living order of the individual in society, especially with its interactive structure. This point of view is felt in almost every field of society. Informationalism, with its effects from social, economic life to cultural life, is increasingly becoming a subject for researches. In this study, the change social media, which is evaluated within the concept of informationalism and which represents a new and rich communication environment has made on the concept of democracy, has been evaluated with a critical point of view within the framework of the concept of netocracy. Keywords: Informationalism, internet, new media, democracy, netocracy.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors identify the applications to be used for personal knowledge management, determine their area of use, and specify and analyze the examples obtained for their use at administrative levels in corporations.
Abstract: The aim of this study is to identify the applications to be used for personal knowledge management, determine their area of use, and specify and analyze the examples obtained for their use at administrative levels in corporations. Within this framework, this study includes the assessment of the work flow of a top manager with the required experience and professionalism in the field of knowledge management. Besides the literature review conducted in line with the content of the subject area in this study, applications that enable personal knowledge management in particular and the similarities between these applications and the features of their social media networks were detected, and their specific purpose of use was clarified. Evernote, chosen as a sample application to be used at corporations, following personal knowledge management, has been assessed within the framework of managers’ experiences with the use of depth interview technique. TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the relationship between R&D expenditures, profitability and net sales of the companies operating in the automotive sector and found that this variables were consistently and there was a long-term relationship between them.
Abstract: Technology is one of the main factors of development at the moment when globalization is increasing very fast. The countries that are in competitive for the development and growth have to develop technology by making innovation. The automotive sector is generally one of the leading sectors in which these innovations are concentrated on R & D investments. The most powerful sector in R & D investment in Turkey is also the automotive sector. Therefore, enterprises engaged in R & D expenditures in the automotive sector in Turkey has been involved in this study. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between R & D expenditures, profitability and net sales of the companies operating in the automotive sector. The data used in the study were obtained from the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) database. The Income Statement and balance sheets of 3 companies engaged in R & D expenditures in the automotive sector in Turkey for 2008-2014 (quarter term) were utilized in this research. Unit root, co-integration and causality tests were conducted in order to examine the relationship between R & D expenditures of companies and variables that one analysis net sales, operating profit, profit before tax and net profit. Also firstly the unit root test was performed and the stability of the data was examined. As a result of this study, it was found that this variables were consistently and there was a long-term relationship between them. This relationship between R & D expenditures and profitability one way was unidirectional whereas two-way causality was found between net sales and R & D expenditures.

TL;DR: Antimicrobial metabolites present in foods can extend the shelf life of unprocessed or processed foods by reducing the microbial growth rate or viability, and offers a new knowledge-based approach to the exploitation of bacteria for food production.
Abstract: Ensuring food safety and at the same time meeting such demands for retention of nutrition and quality attributes have resulted in increased interest in alternative preservation techniques for inactivating microorganisms and enzymes in foods. This increasing demand has opened new dimensions for the use of natural preservatives derived from plants, animals, or microflora. Extensive research has investigated the potential application of natural antimicrobial agents in food preservation. Especially the significance and use of microbes as producers of antimicrobial metabolites has increased significantly during the last decades. Reported studies have demonstrated that microbial metabolites from microorganisms exhibited a great numbers of diverse and versatile biological effects about antimicrobial activities. These microorganisms produce many compounds that are active against other microorganisms, which can be harnessed to inhibit the growth of potential spoilage or pathogenic microorganisms. These include fermentation end products (metabolites) such as organic acids, hydrogen peroxide, and diacetyl, biofilm, exopolysaccharides in addition to bacteriocins and other antagonistic compounds such as reuterin. Up to now, antimicrobial metabolites from lactic acid bacteria (such as nisin) have been mostly used in food preservation. In addition to lactic acid bacteria, some yeast, mold, and another bacteria species as well as some pathogenic bacteria can produce antimicrobial metabolites. Antimicrobial metabolites present in foods can extend the shelf life of unprocessed or processed foods by reducing the microbial growth rate or viability. This offers a new knowledge-based approach to the exploitation of bacteria for food production, from metabolic engineering of microorganisms to produce antimicrobials or nutritionals, to the molecular mining of activities as yet unknown but which could benefit food production. In addition, the availability of the genomes of many food pathogenic and spoilage bacteria may open up new possibilities for the design of novel antimicrobials which target essential functions of these problematic bacteria.
