TL;DR: It has been concluded that JayaL algorithm is a robust and efficient method for continuous optimization problems and has been applied to constrained real-world engineering problems.
Abstract: Many metaheuristic methods have been proposed to solve engineering problems in literature studies. One of these is the Jaya algorithm, a new population-based optimization algorithm that has been suggested in recent years to solve complex and continuous optimization problems. Jaya basically adopts the best solution by avoiding the worst ones. Although this process accelerates the convergence for the solution, it causes concessions in the population and results in inadequate local search capacity. To increase the search capability and exploitation performance of the Jaya algorithm, a new local search procedure—Elite Local Search—has been added to the Jaya algorithm in this study without making any changes in its basic search capability. Thus, an efficient and robust strategy that can overcome continuous optimization problems is presented. This new algorithm created with the elite local search procedure is called JayaL. To demonstrate the performance and accuracy of JayaL, 20 different well-known benchmark functions in the literature were used. In addition to JayaL algorithm, these functions were solved with differential evolution (DE), particle swarm optimization (PSO), artificial bee colony (ABC), dragonfly algorithm (DA), grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA), atom search optimization (ASO) and Jaya algorithms. The performances of JayaL, DE, PSO, ABC DA, GOA, ASO and Jaya algorithms were compared with each other, and experimental results were supported by convergence graphs. At the same time, JayaL has been applied to constrained real-world engineering problems. According to the analyses, it has been concluded that JayaL algorithm is a robust and efficient method for continuous optimization problems.

TL;DR: In this article, a tubular membrane-based liquid desiccant air-conditioning system was numerically simulated to obtain mass transfer correlation, and the effect of the aspect ratio and airflow velocity on the efficiency was investigated.
Abstract: In this study, a tubular membrane-based liquid desiccant air-conditioning system was numerically simulated to obtain mass transfer correlation. The design parameters for the membrane-based liquid desiccant system (Re numbers and aspect ratio, L/D) were also optimized using the numerically obtained results. The mass transfer correlation was developed as a function of Reynolds numbers, Schmidt numbers and aspect ratio which indicates a ratio of the length to the diameter of the membrane tube. The effect of the aspect ratio and airflow velocity on the efficiency of the membrane-based liquid desiccant system was also investigated. COMSOL Multiphysics modules of this study were validated with the literature results. The maximum efficiency was obtained as 50% with an aspect ratio of 40 at low Re number of 50.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of simvastatin and L-carnitine (LC) additives and their interactions on productive performance and carcass quality of broilers was evaluated.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of simvastatin (SIM) and L-carnitine (LC) additives and their interactions, on productive performance and carcass quality of broilers. For this purpose, a feeding trial was conducted, under 3×3 factorial design, using SIM at 0, 1 or 2 g/kg level and LC at 0, 150 or 300 mg/kg level in a basal-diet and originating a total of nine treatments: T1 (control-diet, 0/0), T2 (0/150), T3 (0/300), T4 (1/0), T5(1/150), T6 (1/300), T7 (2/0), T8 (2/150), and T9 (2/300). Feed intake was higher in T2 (4716 g), T7 (4722 g) and T9 (4698 g) than in T1 (4545 g; P<0.05) considering the last growing phase (35-42 days) or whole 42-day production cycle. An improvement of feed efficiency was also observed in T8 (1.64) and T9 (1.67) when compared to T1 (1.77; P<0.05), and these were mainly due to SIM × LC interactions (P<0.05). The LC influenced positively ( P <0.05) the weight of eviscerated carcass, breast, drumsticks and abdominal fat, as well as plasma triglycerides level. This findings suggests that the combination of SIM and LC additives have a positive influence on growth performance and carcass traits of broiler chickens.
