Abstract: Objective To assess the changes of serum levels of interleukin-6(IL-6) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) in pregnant women with stationary phase systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Methods Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to measure serum IL-6 and IL-8 from 14 pregnant women with stationary phase SLE (SLE group), 12 normal pregnant women (normal pregnant group) and 12 normal non-pregnant women (group normal non-pregnant). The later two groups are set as controls. Results The IL-6, IL-8 levels in group SLE patients are (20.31±5.70) ng/L and (48.80±9.17) ng/L, significantly higher than those in normal pregnant group [IL-6, IL-8 levels are (8.40±2.49) ng/L and (21.15±5.21) ng/L, respectively, P 0.01)] and normal non-pregnant group [IL-6, IL-8 levels are (6.14±0.86) ng/L and (17.71±4.43) ng/L, respectively, P 0.01]. However, there′s no significant difference between the normal pregnant group and normal non-pregnant group ( P 0.05). Conclusion Serum levels of IL-6, IL-8 may be helpful to monitor the progress of SLE during pregnancy.

Abstract: Objective To analyze the experience and curative effect in treating chronic dacrocystitis by dacryocystorhinotomy with Ho:YAG laser under endoscope. Method 20 patients of chronic dacryocystitis were treated by dacryocystorhinotomy with Ho:YAG laser under endoscope, followed-up for 1 approximately 2 years to observe the curative effects. Result One was unplugged 8 months after the operation, six after 6 months, four after 4 months and nine after 3 months. No recidivations was found one year after the operation and the effective rate was 100%. There was no complications in all of the cases. Conclusion The technique of dacryocystorhinotomy with Ho: YAG laser under endoscope overcomes the disadvantages of traditional method of operation.

Abstract: OBJECTIVE To study the effect of lipids on I and III procollagen mRNA expression of hepatic stellate cells (HSC). METHODS HSC were isolated and cultured from the liver of Wistar rats by in situ perfusion with pronase and collagenase and the density gradient centrifugation with Nycodenz. HSC were incubated with triglyceride (25mg/L) and very low-density lipid (VLDL, 25 mg/L) for 10d, respectively. I and III procollagen mRNA expression of HSC was detected by Northern blot hybridization. RESULTS After HSC was stimulated with triglyceride and VLDL, the expression of I and III procollagen mRNA increased obviously. CONCLUSION Lipids may promote the expression of I and III procollagen mRNA, and may be associated with fatty liver and hepatic fibrogenesis.

Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To investigate the cell cytotoxicity induced by the antineoplastic parvovirus H-1 in gastric carcinoma cells. METHODS: The cytotoxicity of the H-1 virus in the gastric cancer cell strain HGC27 was measured by MTT test and FACS analysis. The mRNA expressions of genes related to the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling transduction pathway were measured by RT-PCR in HGC27 cells infected by the H-1 virus. RESULTS: HGC27 cells were sensitive to the cytotoxicity of the H-1 virus, although the cell cycle distribution was not significantly changed. The RT-PCR results showed that 48 h after H-1 virus infection of HGC27 cells the expression of creb was increased and that of erk1, stat2, p38-γ, mek2, B-raf and mtk1 was remarkably decreased. However, the expression of each of jnk2, ets and erk2 was unchanged. CONCLUSIONS: The mechanism of the cytotoxic effect of parvovirus H-1 in HGC27 cells might be interference with specific cellular signaling trans­duction pathways, which would induce cell death. A modified and reconstructed parvovirus H-1 could be a very useful tool for antitumor biochemical therapy.
