TL;DR: In this article, the effect of temperature on the hydrogen fermentation of cellulose was evaluated by a continuous experiment using a mixed culture without pretreatment, and the results showed that operational temperature is a key to sustainable bio-hydrogen production and that the thermophilic and hyper-thermophilic conditions produced better results than mesophilic condition.

01 Dec 2017TL;DR: In this article, the effects of volumetric energy density (VED) on the metallurgical defect, densification, phase composition, and mechanical property were also comprehensively analyzed.
Abstract: AlSi10Mg alloy has been widely used in selective laser melting (SLM). However, the formation of metallurgical defects in this material during SLM process has not been studied sufficiently. In this work, different laser parameters were adopted to fabricate the specimens. The effects of volumetric energy density (VED) on the metallurgical defect, densification, phase composition and mechanical property were also comprehensively analyzed. At low VED of 37.39J/mm3, a nearly full dense sample with density of 2.602g/cm3 can be printed. The sample with maximal tensile strength of 475MPa can be printed. While with the increase of VED, the ultimate tensile strength decreases due to the formation of micro-pores. The formation mechanisms of micro-pores including gas pores and keyhole-induced pores were disclosed from the angle of alloy smelting. Better understanding of the influence mechanisms of the laser parameters on the formation of metallurgical defects is beneficial for the production of high performance SLM p...

TL;DR: A theory of how individuals detect whether descriptions of an entity are consistent or inconsistent is presented, which postulates that individuals try to construct a mental model of the entity in which all the propositions are true.
Abstract: This article presents a theory of how individuals detect whether descriptions of an entity are consistent or inconsistent. The theory postulates that individuals try to construct a mental model of the entity in which all the propositions are true. If they succeed, they infer that the description is consistent; otherwise, they infer that it is inconsistent. We report three experiments that corroborated the theory. Experiment 1 confirmed that evaluating consistency is easier when an initial model suffices than when reasoners have to find an alternative model. Experiment 2 established the occurrence of illusion, inferences about the properties of entities. Experiment 3 showed that the illusions correspond to mental models of the assertions, even when these models are wrong because they fail to represent what is false.

TL;DR: In this paper, a fractional model is proposed to elucidate the properties of nonlinear vibrations arising in the engineering of architecture, including noise and uncertain properties, and the model is shown to be robust to noise and uncertainty.
Abstract: Many nonlinear vibrations arising in the engineering of architecture include noise and uncertain properties, and this paper suggests a fractional model to elucidate the properties. The fractional s...
